The concept was a glass pressure gauge that measured inches and pounds of pressure. They sold the idea to Kuhlman Machine Company. The markings on the back of this gauge once painted green show some scuffs with some of metal showing through where the paint has flaked off. Bourdon gages discussed on pages 351-354 with reference to multiple other Crosby gages. Book in good condition for age. Antique brass 10-1/4" Gauge. Back plate a little bit lager with 4 mounting holes. 2-1/2" thick. Feels like solid brass. weighs about 10 pounds. Labeled Crosby Steam Gage& Valve CO Boston serial number 392083. Cannot find original date of production. Somewhere after 1840- When Bourdon discovered the measuring process and prior to 1914 when the gage was checked. Face silver colored. Possibly nickel. Just about perfect glass except 2 tiny scratches. A couple of production ... morebubbles. etched on face where it was calibrated on 7/20/1914 with"ok" and initials. Also attached original brass shut off valve(cock) Looks like 1 double pointed hand. This is an absolute wonderful piece. it is in as found condition. Vintage Solid Brass Pressure Gage Large Polished 6 3/8" Steampunk / Hit & Miss
This is a beautiful old brass pressure gage. It is about 6 3/8" in diameter. And the case is about 2" thick. The case is solid brass and the gage weighs about 4 or 5 lbs. It has a 1/4" NPT fitting. It was made by the Simplex Engineering Corp of Detroit Michigan. I haven't tested it for accuracy, but it appears to be in excellent mechanical condition, and I can't see why it wouldn't operate perfectly. It has been polished, and is in really nice condition for it's age and use. It has a couple of tiny imperfections and light scratches from use over the years, but the finish overall is outstanding, and mirror-like. The gage face shows some fading, and slight discoloration in some areas, but it's still pretty decent for it's age. It has had the glass replaced. It's simply a gorgeous piece in hand. Here's something you don't see often. This is a Test gauge that I believe came out of the sub base at Groton. CT though I have no provenance on this one. One of the other cases had sima Groton, CT on it but this one doesn't. I had four and this is the last one I have for sale. It has a leather case that the seams are coming loose on. This gauge is carried to the vessels and used to calibrate the other gauges on board. It is extremely precise and rugged. It will polish up absolutely amazing.
