Heathkit RF-1 IG-102 Signal Generator in Excellent Calibrated Condition
Heathkit RF-1 Signal Generator in Excellent Calibrated Condition(The RF-1 is the same as the Heathkit IG-102 with a different color front panel. Internal construction and operating specs are identical. This Heathkit signal generator is in excellent condition. It has been completely checked out and the Heathkit calibration procedure performed. This generator works very well and puts out a stable modulated signal from the AM broadcast band up to 22 MHZ which was the highest frequency I could check with my SW receiver. I was able to check the frequency output up to about 70 MHZ with my bench counter and it worked very well to that range. The generator is very accurate and I have included a few pictures showing its output into an HP counter. The internal 400 HZ modulation works very well. All chassis components have been checked out and the tubes ... morewere checked and found to be strong. The old filter capacitors have been replaced with new equivalent components. Out of tolerance resistors have been replaced. All controls operate perfectly and all pots and switches have been cleaned with contact cleaner. The Heathkit calibration procedure has been performed and this unit is very accurate. The attenuation controls work properly and provide an infinite range of output attenuation. As you can see in the pictures this RF-1 is in excellent cosmetic condition and looks and works very well. The case is in exceptional condition. There are no scratches. Rust, paint loss or other signs of abuse. There are no names, numbers, or other previous user added etched or painted symbols. see pictures) The knobs and handle are in excellent condition. The power cord Is in very good condition. The internal components and chassis look very good and the construction is excellent. This is likely a factory assembled unit which is usually a better more consistent construction than some of the home built units out there. HP 8657A RF Signal Generator. 0.1-1040MHz, Guaranteed completely broken!
Do you love a challange? Maybe tearing your hair out? If so. You'll just love this thing! Here is an HP 8657A RF Signal Generator. It's supposed to put out an RF signal from 0.1 to 1040MHz. This one definitely does NOT do that! Oh. It's not that it doesn't output at all, It does. But what it outputs is less of a clean signal, and more of what appears to be RF interference. Yup. It's broken! Think you can fix it? You're a better technician than I. Or at least more optimistic. I've tried troubleshooting it for days. But I really couldn't get much farther than the Attenuator, which does appear to be working. I didn't seem to be getting any signal from the A6 output board. But my scope only goes up to 50MHz, and without a Freq counter, I could only get so far. The power supply board seems to be working well. ... moreWithout much noticeable ripple. So that's not it. There were no obviously blown up/ melted/ exploded/ imploded parts inside. And all the boards are in nice cosmetic shape. This unit does have some nice parts though. The optional High Stability Timebase seems to be working OK. The first scope display shows the clean 10MHz signal coming from it. The other displays are what it's outputting. I'm no expert. But I'm pretty sure this output is NOT normal! Cosmetically. It's ok, not great. Has assorted scuffs and paint chips around the front frame, and a scrape in the front panel under the Address/Local key. It's missing the handles and feet. Guaranteed to to be broken! Good luck! Up for auction is the following item: 1 Hewlett Packard 8656B AM/FM/Sine Signal Generator. Used, for parts only. It's mechanically in good condition, not scratched to death. One side handle is missing. There is some writing on the faceplace, though it's just Sharpie and might come right off. Unit powers up; all buttons respond to being pressed, though a few are sticky and could stand a cleaning. The display works, and it appears that all segments are good, though the plastic lenses have a little bit of hazing if you inspect them very carefully. Electronically.well. That's why it's a parts-only unit. If you look at the picture of the bottom of the unit with the cover off, you'll see something very important is missing: the final RF generator! It looks like it was carefully removed at some point(all of the wires were de-soldered, ... morenot cut. The RF pipes were unscrewed, not cut and bent) but without that, the unit may look good, but it's kind of useless as a signal generator. So, it's good for the rest of its parts, and if you have an 8565B that's has a working final stage but is damaged in some other way, here's a perfect unit for you. I purchased this unit here on eBay a few weeks back. Figuring it would make a good wintertime project, and I could learn some RF while I was at it.
