The photos show an output of 143V into a 500-ohm load. There is no change in voltage when the load is removed. Or when the AC is varied, so this unit is regulating. The problem is that the voltage cannot be adjusted above 143V. Included in this auction is an original service manual, in which are instructions for troubleshooting low voltage. I inspected the inside of the unit carefully and did not find, or smell, any burned or overheated components. Sold as is.

For auction is one used HP 6281A DC power supply 0-7.5V 0-5A. With Option 011(crowbar) I replaced the line cord that was severed near the inlet, each of the three wires was soldered together and insulated with heat shrink tubing with an outer heat shrink tubing around the entire splice. Other than the line cord, the power supply is in good physical and cosmetic condition, and electrically performs well. The metering switch contacts were cleaned when I first acquired the power supply and has performed without any problem since. The voltage and current limit adjustments both have coarse and fine controls and all the knobs are intact. I have tested the power supply with 6 Volts and a 1 ohm resistor(6 amps) Photos show several other testing conditions. The load resistors in the photos are 1 ohm, 1% and 50W ratings. Unit functions perfectly and was recently calibrated internally to verified voltage and current using a Fluke Multimeter. Last time it was NIST calibrated was in 99- but these power supplies are 100% reliable constant duty always on supplies. No fans to go bad but instead massive aluminum heat fins in the back. This is not your modern high frequency switching power supply. It a solid old skool power supply originally designed for audio and especially electron tube(vacuum tube) circuit design testing. This unit cannot short cathode to anode. It simply will not go past its current limit. We have about a dozen of these units and we dont need that many. It powers up, and the digital display is bright and clear, and the voltage is adjustable to 60VDC and beyond. I tested the output connections with a digital multimeter(not included) and they were putting out the correct voltage. I also hooked a DC motor up to the power supply, and it powered the motor just fine, and I was able to adjust the speed on the motor by increasing the current output of the power supply.
