They are twins. But not quite identical since they are hand-made. Each Alien is hand-carved of solid Mahogany and painted in simple black and silver. The skin is left to the natural wood tone. Enhanced with stain. The left hand reaches out and can actually hold a small tray(or in our case, a basket of Halloween candy) History. These were made by an artist(who I was told was from California) Commissioned, as the grand prize at a high-profile Casino Night supporting a local charity. I attended, and I won! The theme was built around the TV movie"Taken" which we also saw a screening of that night. This was back in 2002. Recently I found some figures that looked like they were made by the same artist, but were not aliens. The doors have solid Douglas Fir cores covered with with 1/8" thick oak veneers on the exterior side. And 1/8" thick heartpine veneers on the interior side. Both doors are stained and still have some of their original finish. Each door has 6 raised panels. Please note that heartpine is the non-living. Core of a pine tree, and not the soft, outer, living sap-wood. Since it ... moretakes 30 years for a pine tree just to develop just 1” of heart stock it is rarer. Harder, more durable, more insect& rot resistant, less susceptible to warping and twisting, and is much more valuable than the cheap, pine lumber that is commonly found at most hardware stores. Also, please don't think that"veneer" means inferior quality. Unlike the paper-thin veneers used on modern doors and furniture. Each set consists of 2 glass knobs, 2 stamped iron escutcheons, 1 iron mortise lock with 1 working key, 1 steel strike plate for the door jamb, and 1 spindle with 2 setscrews. The majority of the brass plating wore away over the years leaving the surfaces of the parts with a nice, distressed finish. At the point of salvage. All parts were painted, dirty, and unevenly tarnished(see last photo) Since then, we've removed the paint, and cleaned and polished all parts.
