The unit works well and gives direct readings from the thermocouple tip without the need for any batteries or external power. This is a great unit for measuring the temperature of any mechanical or electro-mechanical equipment that has temperature parameters that need to be monitored. It measures from Zero to 700 degrees Fahrenheit by putting the probe end against the item to be measured. I measured various parts of my stove top with it turned on just so you could see the various temperature read outs.
