Here I have a general electric polyphase industrial size watthour meter Model BV6. It has all parts intact and the glass cover is great! It is a big one and I am unsure of what the working condition is or if it may be good for parts only but it does good! It actually came out of an elementary school back in the early 90's. My grandfather used to collect some crazy stuff so now I am trying to find homes for some of it! The meter is marked 2.5 amps 60 cyc. Type V-4A 4 wire 3 phase 277 Volts. The tag inside is#33 259298. The length of the whole meter is 14 5/8" by 7 1/2" wide. When laid on its back the glass and back of meter stand 7" Just the glass cover is about 5 1/4" and the length 11" approx. Vintage c.1920s General Electric Single Phase WattHour Meter. Good Condition
Up for auction is a very cool vintage G.E electric meter. It is a single phase watt hour meter. I can't quite make out from the brass plate what model type it is. But from the research I've done this type should date from the late 19teens to the 1920's[they started putting clear glass covers on them in the 1930s] The meter is in good condition cosmetically. There is some black stuff on the brass plate but that was scratching off with my thumb nail. I left it alone because I wasn't sure if it is supposed to be there. I took the cover off and it looks very clean inside. The wires coming out of the meter look fairly modern so it may have been in used fairly recently, but I have no idea how to test it so it is sold untested. It is an antique Westinghouse Polyphase Watthour Meter. The meter is a large size at 11" tall x 7 3/4" wide x 9 1/2" deep. Including the posts. Without the posts, it is 5 1/2" deep. It weighs just under 23 pounds. It has some small chips and scratches to the glass and shows wear and use. There is some grime around the edge of the glass- see last picture. Overall. It is in very good used condition. A neat old large meter. I have an old GE Time Over Current relay listed in a separate auction at this time.

THIS WAS A UNIQUE COIN OPERATED 115 VOLT. 60 CYCLE WATTHOUR METER THAT WAS OPERATED(TURNED ON) BY THE INSERTION OF A QUARTER(25 CENTS) THE COIN WAS INSERTED, THE KNOB ROTATED AND THE"PAID" WATTHOUR DIAL INDICATOR ROTATED TO SHOW THE WATTS PURCHASED AND THE METER TURNED"ON" TO ALLOW ELECTRICITY TO PASS THROUGH TO THE"LOAD" IT PROVIDED FOR THE OPERATION OF ELECTRIC DELIVERY FOR 5 WATTHOURS, AT A RATE OF 5 CENTS A WATTHOUR. HOWEVER. THE COIN FEATURE IS INOPERABLE DUE TO THE ABSENCE OF THE MECHANISM. THE METER COULD ESSENTIALLY BE RETROFITED WITH A MODIFICATION TO PERFORM THE"TURN ON" FEATURE BY A QUALIFIED HOBBIEST OR ELECTRICIAN. THE CERTAINTY OF THE ELECTRICAL PORTION OF THE DEVICE TO WORK IS UNPROVEN.
