This is a Vintage Conn Baritone Saxophone w/Case. It is Silver and Gold with Pearl. Serial# is 429xx. Dates it to 1917(thats World War I era folks) It says on the front of the bell"Made by Conn LTD" Elkhart Ind, U.S.N, Great Lakes A5505. I got this in the late 1980's had it repaired and re-padded. And a new case also. It still plays. Needs full exterior cleaning and polishing. There are a few spots where the finish wore through. I think the mouthpiece is not original. Early History: The Constitution was one of six frigates that Congress requested be built in 1794 to help protect American merchant fleets from attacks by Barbary pirates and harassment by British and French forces. They are in good shape with the usual cracks. Dings or scratches. Some are dirtier than others and almost all have cracks where the cross braces are welded(see pictures) Most of the stainless feet are wore through or gone. The metal brace is stamped 9-55 which I am assuming is the date of manufacture but I do not know for sure. I figured shipping with UPS but am open to other options as well as local pickup. There is a tiny(approx. 1/16"1/32" point tip scuff trace and or tip crimp right at/on the actual tip of the front upper right corner point; and possibly, an even tinier one(approx. 1/64" at the tip of the lower right corner point. Assigned to the Atlantic Fleet Michigan conducted shakedown off the east coast and in the eastern Caribbean until 7 June 1910. Standing out of New York Harbor 29 July, the battlewagon then steamed along the New England and middle Atlantic coast s on maneuvers. On 2 November she departed Boston, Mass. for a training cruise to western Europe. After visiting Portland, England, she arrived Cherbourg, France, 8 December. This is a pre WWI US Navy Official photo postcard of the Cruiser USS Chattanooga C-16(later PG-30& CL-18) The postcard photo is a color tinted. Printed photo image, it is not a US Navy real photo or RPPC postcard. The postcard image was made from an actual real photograph taken by famed US Navy Official Photographer Enrique Muller, Jr. of New York City NYC. Minor all around wear/rounding(see images) to card front corner points and edges; there are tiny(approx. 1/16" or less) point tip scuff traces and or tip crimps right at/on the actual tips of several of the front corner points; HOWEVER, all FRONT CORNER POINTS and EDGES remain FIRM and SHARP. Nearly invisible in our images(you must look closely) out from each of the front upper corner points, there diagonal, ... moreapproximately 1/3" width, color diminishment bands. WHAT ARE THEY? This postcard was apparently in a postcard album for many years where it was held in place by having its corners inserted through slits in the album page. Over the years the pressure of the page bands, on the postcard surface, diminished the tinted surfaces ever so slightly. Also invisible in the card front images, but visible in the card back image, is a left to right, edge to edge, wrinkle line. In the card front, it is hidden, even to the naked eye, in the greenish ocean. In the card back(see image) it appears as a vertical wrinkle line, running down from the top edge, just to the left of the stamp box. HOWEVER, this AREA OF THE POSTCARD remains ABSOLUTELY FIRM. The card back itself is very clean overall and all printed text and the stamp box remain quite sharp. WITHOUT the"wrinkle line" this postcard WOULD HAVE RATED HIGHER! Slightly less than average all around wear/rounding(see images) to card front corner points and edges. There are small-tiny(approx. 1/16" 1/32" point tip scuff traces and or tip crimps right at/on the actual tips of the front corner points; there are also two equally short and narrow edge scuffs along the front right vertical edge. One approximately 5/8" above the lower right corner point, the second, approximately 3/4" above that one. There appears to be a very slight, very narrow/thin and curved"surface bend" not a true wrinkle, but a slight curvature, extending 1" plus, out from the front left vertical edge, beginning approximately 3/4" below ... morethe upper left corner point, going rightward. This condition not that readily visible viewed directly, more so when card held at an angle. The reciprocal card back area exhibits almost no evidence of this. Also, just below that corner point, in the white image border area, and further below, in the border area, there are small areas/streaks of light discoloration(slightly visible in our images) The card back(see images) exhibits various areas of mild discoloration in and around the corner point areas, plus there is what appears to be a small ink stain out from the lower right corner point. After taking part in the International Naval Review in Hampton Roads in April, she left New York 18 June 1893 to cruise in European and Mediterranean waters as flagship of the European station. She returned to New York 20 March 1895 and was placed out of commission there 1 May. Recommissioned 1 December 1898, Chicago made a short cruise in the Caribbean before sailing for the European Station 18 April. From 1857 until the outbreak of the Civil War served in the Pacific and Mediterranean Squadrons. At outbreak of war, commanded several ships of the Mississippi Squadron and was one of Flag Officer Andrew Hull Foote's"can do" officers, displaying initiative, energy and dash. The buttons run down the right side of the vest when worn so I assume it technically is a man's vest. The vest is in very good condition and looks like it was hardly worn.
