This elegant late Victorian piece was made by the National Brass& Iron Works of Reading, PA, which was established in 1891. NB& IW specialized in manufacturing fine decorative brass and iron objects until it went out of business in 1911. The dimensional detail and reticulated metalwork found on this lovely gilded metal frame make it a stand-out. The piece features an ornate scrolling foliate and floral design. As seen in the photos. The frame also fits nicely on an easel so it could be used on a dresser or table if desired. It would make a nice mirror for a young girls vanity, great Christmas gift. The back of the piece is marked"NB&IW" and"3141" The piece measures approximately 8 inches x 8 inches. It has some paint chipping but no breaks or major damage. The paint is actually still quite intact for the age of this piece. The bottom of the piece has 3 small feet. The piece also has 2 original screw holes where it looks like it could be mounted to a wall. This is a really nice piece and I could not find another example of it through an internet search. This is a beautiful antique National Brass& Iron Works(NB&IW) marked picture frame. Numbered 2172, that holds a picture measuring 4" x 6" It is a heavy cast iron with an excellent polished brass finish that has a slightly darkened, aged patina, with a little loss of finish on the back side, mainly on the hinged stand. There is a replacement piece of glass and corrugated cardboard held snugly in place by three clasps that turn 360 degrees so a picture can be easily added. Outer dimensions of the frame are 8" L x 4 1/2" W(with the stand swung outward) x 12" H.
