Before I got into the aircraft business(actually before I finished school) I hung onto the"dumb end of the chain" for a survey crew. I enjoyed hiking throught the woods and have fond memories of my days as a surveyor. I suppose that's why I still like to buy these kinds of instruments. Even though I have no idea how to run them. I do know that they take a lot of the work out of what we used to have to do(trig table math) This is a Set 5E Total Station. I also have a Set 5F. The E is the first set of 6 pictures. The F is the second set of 5 pictures. The F has a small crack in the plastic casing around the scope. It could be fixed with super glue, but I would prefer to sell it for $1500 and let the buyer fix it the way he wants(or not fix it as it works fine like it is) See close up of crack in pic#8. Only marks on instrument are a few barely noticeable ones where a sticker was removed on one side. Gun was calibrated in March 2013 and only used twice since. Tribrach is not original and is a generic non-Sokkia brand. Purchased new in March 2013. Both batteries recelled in 2013– one is NiMh, other is NiCd. Battery clip cover is missing on NiCd battery. The Japan made instrument is in great physical condition and in working order. The device was very well cared for and it works well but. The batteries might not be taking a charge? It has been tested and it is fine and the optics are clean but. After a couple of hours or so of charging the battery, the instrument says that the Battery is low and beeps. I will try again to charge them to see what happens. The instrument comes with its case. Notice the locking clip for the battery on the left has broken off. The battery on the right also is missing its locking clip on the backside. They would still be useable without these clips but again I want to mention that these batteries would need to be rebuilt for operational confidence. This is the"12 Volt battery adapter. This adapter connects directly to the unit with a long enough cord to hook to your car battery. I used this when I took pictures of the 3810a self test shown below. Internal Self Test Please note: The hard rubber seal around the attenuator cap has been broken. However the glass is fine. I have included a picture from the manual showing the cap as well as its stock number. surveying total station SOKKIA SET3B w/ LIETZ PRISMS, accessories, batteries+
From a Federal surplus sale. A Sokkia SET3B total station, with triple and single Lietz prisms. I was told by the fellow that showed me the equipment from this lot(he was an employee in the department that actually used this equipment) that they bought this machine back in the late 90s, and he thought they'd used it maybe 3 times since then, and they now need the space and decided to surplus it. Having done some surveying back in my younger days, I can definitely say that the condition of the cases is consistent with having been used'maybe 3 times' Everything about this set is in excellent cosmetic shape. The batteries were(unsurprisingly) dead when I got them. I charged one battery, powered it up, and the machine said it had a"data error" and then went to the screen as shown in the second photo. I presume there's ... moresome sort of watch battery inside for data retention that also died during long storage. I don't know how to use this particular machine. But it made some beeps and stuff in response to the button pushing. The upshot of all this is that I'm confident this is a working machine. You may need to replace the internal data battery, and I CANNOT guarantee that the two batteries that come with it will hold a charge very long- I only charged one to test it. I plan on checking again in a week or two to see if the battery retained the charge. In addition to the machine and prisms, there are instructions, a quick reference card, a charger, two batteries, yellow cover, a lint-free cleaning cloth, and a small tool kit. IF* it should turn out not to work for some reason, you can return it for a refund. But please keep in mind that I am not guaranteeig the batteries, you should plan on replacing those. You will receive two packages, one for the machine, one for the prisms.
