I believe it to be a GA-52 but I am not sure which sub model I was a surveyor years ago so I am pretty familiar with the use and operation of these locators. We mainly used them to locate property corners like rebar or monuments This one works good. I used to find my property corners that I had no idea where they were. This unit does not have the hard rubber tip. It is missing. The volume and sensitivity knob are intact. One of the screw knobs on the battery cover are tight and should be considered stripped but able to work. I put fresh batteries in this unit and it worked fine. Volumes work on both. 1st- The On/Off switches is not screwed on tight(goes in full circle and is missing the plastic triangle) Volume knob is loose, missing a screw on the casing, missing plastic tip on the end where the locator is located, and it has scrathces and many scuffs. 2nd- Volume knob is loose. Is not missing any screws, has a chip on the metal casing, missing plastic tip on the end where the locator is located, and it also has scrathces and many scuffs. This is a Schonstedt MAC-51B Magnetic/ Pipe& Cable Locator system. These are used in various industries to locate and trace underground objects(ferrous. Wires, pipes, etc) without the need for digging. This unit is partially functional. Please read and understand description before bidding. All components are in fair condition with scuffs. Scratches, marks and wear from normal field usage. The speaker in the receiver was replaced by me, the original one was non-functional. The transmitter operates off of 8 standard C-Cell batteries(not included) It powers on and beeps continuously as it should. The receiver operates off of 4-standard C-Cell batteries(also not included) When the receiver is turned on and placed in"C"able tracing mode. The receiver properly picks up the signal from the transmitter. The receiver also features a ... more1/4" headphone jack which was tested and working as well. The receiver also features another mode known as"Magnetic" mode. This mode does not appear to be functioning properly. When this mode is activated, the speaker blares loudly no matter where it is placed. Normally, it should only blare at a high-pitch when it is placed near ferrous objects. Sometimes the sound will tone down, but for the most part it does not detect ferrous objects properly. Cable Tracing mode is the only mode which appears to be working on this setup which is why this auction is listed as"parts/repair" If all you need is pipe/cable tracing. Then this unit will work perfectly for you. If you need a survey pin/manhole locator, this unit will not work for you.
