Vintage Rudge Whitworth Tour Bike Rod Brakes Sturmey Archer Pre Raleigh Bicycle
paper boy What we have here is a Nice Vintage Rudge Whitworth Early Touring Bike with 3 Speeds and Rod Brakes. I am no expert on English Bikes but will give you my best synopsis. Pretty sure this is a Rudge Whitworth that is a Pre Raleigh Built bike. That is Before they were Bought and Manufactured By Raleigh of Nottingham. Pre Raleigh) The Previous owner said it was 1950 bike. Also there's a 50 on the Sturmey Archer AW hub which I also think is 1950, and the Rod Brakes Denotes a early bike. The Bike is a Nice Survivor with Rod Brakes, Sturmey Archer 3 speed, Fenders, Chain Guard, Cool Rudge Sprocket, Rudge Pedals(one is missing a cap) and 26" x 1 3/8" tires and wheels. The Frame Seat Tube measures 52cm center to center or 53.5cm center to top of seat clamp which is also 21" my guess it is a 21" model. The Bike is ... morein as found used Condition, Rides, but should be gone through before any serious use, has rust, needs cleaning, love, and tune. I Don't think the Grips and Seat are original, Sturmey Archer Shifter is super nice but it's Plastic faced and I think it's a later Vintage. The Tires are Nice Vintage Kelly Springfield 26" 1 3/8" tires, that I am sure were replacements at one time. The Black paint appears to be original, but the white is touch up. Nice Early English Touring Bike and with some love will be pretty sweet. Pretty sure this is accurate, If you have any info I will add to the Description. Not Interested in Shipping Internationally. Nice Dug Shot Confederate Hexagonal Whitworth Civil War Bullet
Here we have a very nice example of a shot hexagonal Confedera te Whitworth bullet also found while relic hunting in the old B yrd Airport vicinity just east of Richmond Virginia. The bulle t measures 15/16ths of an inch and is.45 caliber. This was the Confederate sharp shooter's favorite bullet. It was very accurate at extreme long range. It was this famous round that mortally wounded Gen. Sedgwick when he was boosting to his men that the Confederates could not hit an elephant at the distance they were shooting which is said to have been about a thousand yards. An example of the Whitworth can be seen on page 40#251 in"C IVI L WAR PR OJECTILES II by Reid McKee and M. E. Mason Jr. This is a very hard bullet to find. Whitworth had experimented with cannons using twisted hexagonal barrels instead of traditional round rifled barrels, which was patented in 1854.
