I have up for sale a very nice vintage original circa later 1800s Hotel Tap Service Bell. The bell has excellent sound.Rings clear and true. It has an ornate base with pierced designs, stands approx 5-3/4" to the top/ tapper section. The bell part is nickel plated and the base appears to be Cast Iron with brass type plated finish. There is some wear to the finish but no damages. There is no maker indicated anywhere that I can see. This comes from the estate of an old Antique Dealer that passed away last year, she was in her 90s and this came from her estate. The Bell No image so faithfully captures telephone employees' devotion to duty as does"The Spirit of Service. The man who posed for the sketch was Angus Macdonald. Who himself epitomized the commitment to the telephone company and its customers so common in the early days of telephony. In March 1888. A severe snowstorm threatened the newly installed long distance line between Boston and New York City. Macdonald's crew in West Boylston, Massachusetts and other crews along the line began patrolling on snowshoes, repairing any downed and broken lines they came across, and maintaining service throughout the blizzard. At one point, Macdonald and his crew came upon a train that had been stalled ... morefor two days. They were able to reach town on their snowshoes and return with food and drink for the passengers. The sketch itselfThe Bell Company recognized an opportunity when it saw one. And commissioned an artist to commemorate the occurrence with a drawing of a lineman patrolling the lines. Angus was chosen to be the model. An advertising campaign featuring"The Spirit of Service" stressed the dependability and importance of maintaining service. This demonstration of the stability of Bell lines and service resulted in a great number of new orders. In future years, the drawing(and a later painting based on it) became an inspiration to generations of Bell System employees. Slightly less than 1/2" lapel pin size, round, made of gold colored metal with blue enamel, showing the familiar Bell System bell logo with the number 20 in the center for years of service, and the words"No Accident Mo. Vintage Prayer, Yoga, Service Bell Unusual India Rare House of Lloyd Beautiful
Here is a most unusual bell. It was made for the House of Lloyd in India. It is silvertone. But I can't say for sure what type of metal it is made of. The bell unscrews into two parts in order to remove it from it's very unique stand. You then screw the two pieces back together and hang the bell from a forked handle at the front of the stand while the bell is in use. The bell itself has a swirl patterned handle and leaves going from small at the top to larger as it goes to the bottom portion of the bell. The stand has an approx. 5 1/4" base and stands approx. 11" tall. The stand is a semi-circle with a single leaf at one end and a double leaf at the other end. It weighs approx 1 lb. 7oz. and is very sturdy. I would imagine it could have been used for several purposes, possibly religious, or perhaps to change yoga positions ... moreduring a class or even a servants bell. The sunglasses are Lil' Bratz Pink, Generic Blue Glitter, Barbie Shades, and Lil' Bratz Butterfly with Rhinestones. There is minor scratches on some of the lenses. Structurally, the only pair with an issue is the Butterfly glasses-the nose bridge is crooked(as seen in the photo) The service bell is in Excellent condition. I bought this at Pier 1 about 4 years ago. And it never made it out of the wrapping paper.
