Up for auction is this LIONEL#438 Signal Tower! This Signal Tower was made sometime between 1927-1939. The tower measures 12 inches in height. Base is 6 inch wide and 4-1/2 deep! This Variation does not have the knife blade switches on the back! This Tower does have a light socket inside for illumination but the wire needs to be extended down through the base in order for it to work. This 438 Signal Tower is all original. It does have some nicks and small scratches. Overall it is a Nice Pre-War piece. This Tower spent many decades on my Dad's Standard gauge layout and I hope someone will give it a new home on there Layout for many more decades to come! It began life as a Marx# 413A switch tower. When I obtained it. A prior owner had repainted it red and black, including the ladder(which was originally clear zinc plated) There was no shack or light fixture with it. I installed an old Xmas tree light socket and it lights up nicely. I then scrounged through my parts and could only find a green and white lithographed shack from a# 424"Radio Control" tower, so I inserted a transparent red"lens" in the window and installed the shack on the top of the tower. It stands ... more9.25" tall. While this is certainly not"correct" It really didn't turn out bad at all and odds are good you'll own the only one in captivity like this if you win this auction!
