P & LE RR Cast Brass Switch Lock & Matching Ring Barrel Key- Great Dark Patina
Up for bid is a Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad brass switch lock and matching key. The lock body is smooth with only a few minor nicks. There is a little wear on the"L" marking from where the lock hung on the switch machine. It has a beautiful overall dark patina with a drop of old paint on each side of the lock. Just a great old look. Attached to the lock is nine inches(5 double links) of original steel chain. The springs are strong in both the dust cover and the shackle, the lock works perfectly and snaps right open. There is a manufacturer logo(F_S? on the top of the shackle and a number on the side(year? that are hard to make out but I did not want to rub the area and disturb the finish. Completing this set is a tapered ring barrel switch key also marked P&LE RR. And 5623 on the back. Unpolished and pocket worn, this ... moreis a nice early key that is hard to find for this railroad. The lock body is about 3 3/4" high. 2 9/16" wide and 1" thick including the keyhole cover. Note: This lock and key have long been obsolete and not in use by any current railroad! They were found in a Dexter box but I suspect the locks that belonged to the box were put on the house and the old locks were stored in the box. There is a very ornate brass Dexter key lock and an oval Dexter key lock. There are two Dexter cylinders as well as a part of a dead bolt. There are also two small turn switches brass but I don't know of their original function. This would make an excellent addition to any collection. Vintage Denver & Rio Grande Western Switch Lock and Key
Here is a vintage Switch Lock and Key from the famous Denver& Rio Grande Railroad. The lock is from Adlake and has the initials D&RGW on the back. The hasp looks like it may be brass. Though has considerable discoloration. The brass key is marked D& RG RR on one side and has the numbers 6131 S on the reverse. The key has the start of a slight 1/4" crack at the insertion end, but operates the lock. This would be a very nice piece to add to your collection. I will be listing more keys shortly. StL&S RY Brass Switch Lock and Key - MM Buck, St Louis
Very collectible manufacturer. Brass switch lock marked StL&S RY on the hasp. I believe this is for the St Louis and Southeastern Railway. Not St Louis and Southwestern(Cotton Belt) Key cover is stamped for the manufacturer, M.M.Buck& Co. St. Louis. Marked S for switch on back of the hasp. Well worn tapered hilt key is not railroad marked, so does not violate eBay selling restrictions, but is stamped with the MM Buck hallmark, and opens the lock with ease. Key cut does not match the more common StL&SW, that's why I think it may be Souheastern. A very nice pair and rare to be sure.
