This tile from American Encaustic Tiling Co. is absolutely gorgeous! It has great depth with the slightly raised leaves and flowers. Varying color and shiny glaze. There is some chipping on the edges, especially on one corner, and I've taken photos of every edge to show how they look. No cracks. There is overall crazing, Tile measures 6" square x 1/2" thick and weighs 21.2 oz. I bought this at an estate auction, and as the runner handed it to me she commented on how beautiful it was. Many have an affinity for the classic old art tile. Here is an opportunity to own one such tile manufactured by the American Encaustic Tiling Company. This particular tile is not marked with the familiar lettering on the back however. Several identical tiles we have recently sold confirm its origin. Located in Zanesville Ohio, they produced many different, beautiful tiles for many useful and practical applications. Many were used in panels, borders, backdrops and friezes. They were known for their high relief tiles that gave great detail and visual depth. This 6 X 6 tile is displays a thistle pattern. Fired in a crackle glaze also known as a Palissy finish, it has both light and dark shades of green as the primary colors. There are flea bites in each of the four corners along with a small"nibble" on two of the sides. There are tiny ... moreglaze flakes on several of the leaves. It displays well on its own but all edge and corner imperfections would be hidden by framing. A great addition to your art tile collection. Thanks for looking! PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE. Buyer to pay for shipping and insurance. In the event that damage should occur during shipping. Please email us immediately and keep the original shipping box, which will be needed to file a claim. Between the years of 1879 and 1936. The American Encaustic Tiling Company Limited produced tiles with mosaic, comedic, nature, wildlife and human subject matter. Many of these tiles were manufactured with embossed motifs which today are more commonly referred to as relief, low relief and high relief tiles. This particular example is a 6" X 6" tile which were used most commonly on fireplace mantle facings and kitchen splashes. This 1/2" thick, high relief tile, consists of mauve/burgundy glaze and is fired with a high gloss finish. It has a swirled and ribbed line motif all of which variate in length and thickness and emanate from a center core surrounded by pebble like shapes. It has sharp and crisp detail and the relief gives it substantial depth. On the back is the maker's mark with raised letters designating A.E. Tile ... moreCo. Limited. There is also a small amount of left over mortar. There are two tiny"nibbles" on the face that do not overtly affect the overall display. This is a wonderful example of this tiling company's high relief Majolica tiles and would make a great addition to your art tile collection. Thanks for looking! PLEASE WAIT FOR INVOICE. A pretty unique and rare item here. You probably have seen jasperware tiles like this made by the Mosaic Tile Company the ones with Abraham Lincoln's profile. This tile. However, is marked on the back: Allen Tiling Company in Chicago. I have seen other of these tiles from Allen Tiling that are a really marked with the word"Mosaic" in addition to Allen Tiling. So. There is a bit of a mystery here. At first, I suspected that the Mosaic Tile Company made these tiles for the Allen Tiling Company to give away as promotional items. Under this theory, I believed that the Mosaic Tile Company was marking its name in addition to putting Allen Tiling on the back. If that is true. Then I do not understand why this tile lacks the Mosaic marking on the back to indicate that it was made by Mosaic Tile Company. It makes me think that perhaps ... moreAllen Tiling was making these items and adding the name Mosaic on it's own. When Mosaic Tile Company found out. It caused the Allen Tiling company to stop using its name without permission. I actually do not know what theory is correct. However. One thing that is great about these jasperware Lincoln tiles is that there are so many varieties with small differences in details. It could be a collecting category all on its own. What I do know is this is a beautiful tile and in addition to everything else about it. It comes in its original box packaging. I do not know if this is 50 years old 70 years old or even older. However, the address on the tile and on the box predate the existence of postal ZIP Codes. That means this tile predates 1963. Free shipping on this item. Get it while you can with a low buy it now.

Shipping I am a big believer in"going green" and thus over 90% of my packing materials are recycled from a variety of sources. Believe me. It takes a lot more effort to gather these recycled materials than it would be for me to buy them and have them drop shipped to my eBay shop. I use eBay's shipping calculator to determine your shipping price based on my estimated packaged weight. I do NOT attempt to make"profit" on shipping costs. Sometimes the eBay shipping calculator seems a bit off and I will gladly issue a partial shipping refund in cases where there is a significant difference between what the calculator shows and my actual shipping costs. All items are shipped fully insured at my expense. International Buyers- Please Note: I
