Civil War Veteran Reunion Canteen with nice rope cord strap - 1890s - 1900s
Here is a nice Civil War Veteran Reunion Canteen. It was at one time painted with white and had a United States of America Crest with an Eagle and E Pluibus Enum in the crest. There are remnants of that crest on the canteen now. The canteen measures 5 inches in circumference and is a copy of the model of canteen most of the soldiers carried during the war. It dates from the 1890s- 1900s. At that time the veterans loaded this canteen with something a little stronger than water from the Rapidan River! It has a nice multi-color rope strap attached to it. Unusual Find "Jumping the Plug " Telescope Shape Rope & Pully Corkscrew - France
Offering an unusual corkscrew with a Rope& Pulley Mechanism. And similar to the KARIBA featured in Don Bull's Pocket Guide to Corkscrew. Page 84. For some reason it's named LE SAUTE BOUCHON"Jumping the Plug" The fixed position cork worm is retracted up into the 10 sided" telescope" barrel handle by pulling out the ring on the rope. Then the corkscrew is positioned and pushed down over the bottle neck. The rope is released and the worm goes down by spring pressure to the top of the cork. The wine tender twists the barrel- and thereby the fixed positioned worm screws into the cork. The oversized" telescope" handle with the 10 facet shape provides excellent leverage to both screw the worm into the cork. And full hand grip to pull the cork out. Looks a little stupid- WORKS GREAT! He wears his cowboy hat and his handkerchief loosely tied around his neck and holding a rope in his hand. On his feet her wears boots which his jeans cover in between his legs is a bunch of twigs that were gathered for fire. He looks off into the distance as if he heard something. On the other side of his hip he holds on to his knife. This is a beautifully detailed sculpture and depicts the way of cowboy life as it should be. From being out of the sleeves they have curled slightly but are unharmed. From what we can tell from clues in the photos(clothes, cars, etc. these are from the 1950's but none are dated. We have a friend who worked for Ringling in the 1950's and he was kind enough to go thru the photos and try to identify any individuals he could- mostly clowns. The identifications are his and we can take no responsibility for them- you are buying what you see. Formal credits on the back of some will be noted.
