It’s un-posted and unwritten so difficult to date precisely. But the Postal Regulations printed on the reverse suggest it probably dates to around the first decade of the 1900s. There are four almost imperceptible album storage pressure marks; and there’s nibbing or rounding at each of the corner tips(please see scan) but otherwise it’s in pretty good condition for its age and gauge. LEITZ TRINOVID 10x40 BINOCULARS. ROOF PRISM. VINTAGE 1964
A PAIR OF CLASSIC LEITZ TRINOVID 10x40 ROOF PRISM BINOCULARS. A pair of Leitz 10X40 Binoculars from 1964. 631914. The condition looks fairly well used with obvious paint wear. The Leatherette condition is very good. The front glass is better than I would expect after nearly 50 years with on a few slight cleaning marks, but certainly nothing untoward. One tiny speck size mark on one front element which only the most sensitive finger can detect(1mm in size) like a pin-prick. The front exit pupils are good with signs of minor cleaning. There is a trace of haze. But looking though these you would not realize it as they give a very nice clear bright image. I would not recommend having them stripped and cleaned unless you REALLY must! It's not worth the cost at this stage, and these are an extremely usable binocular and a joy to use as they ... moreare. Lens collimation is perfect. Don't forget. These are 50 years old, they clearly won't look like new, however, the mechanical nature of these feels almost perfect and paint wear won't make the image look any clearer! There is no Fungus inside.One rubber eyepiece has a split around the edge. Leitz Binoulars rarely or never came with caps, but it has the Leather strap. Prolonged viewing through high grade optics such as Leitz or Zeiss won't give you eyestrain, hence the high prices and top quality lenses. If you don't mind a pair of fairly well used Leitz Binoulars. Please place you bid!
