This is a vintage chrome era post card. Circa 1950s- 1970s. Post Card Shows- Hundreds of signs at Wastson Lake Milepost at mile 635. Alaska Highway, Yukon. Card publisher is- J.H. Bell. The overall condition is as seen; always check corners and edges for possible wear(see scans) As grading is subjective. Please look at scan for faults/defects. Signs, vehicles, etc. Some of factory sealed, some are kits, and all of them need a layout to call home. I have a tendency to end up with this kind of thing and never finding a place for them on one of the layouts. The sealed tree boxes are obviously complete sets. The open ones may have one missing. You can see some of the original price tags in the pictures. But those were quite a while back! Even going by them, though, the starting bid is less than half! Rare Marx HO Gauge Interstate Information and Exit Signs(six each) in C-7 Excellent Condition with just a few minute wrinkles. Marks and discolorations evident; these signs and their Overhead Horizontal Carrier are from a Marx Model Train Accessory Set used with Marx Highway Racing Slot Car and Construction Truck Sets. These signs were originally designed as'peel& stick' items but over time gummed backing has dried up; each sign is now held in place on slick paper backing sheet by a touch of school paste on back of each sign. 4 Ontario Highway Signs Here is a rare listing of the first highway signs used in Ontario. Most of the earliest signs on Ontario roads up until the mid 1920s were vague instruments of travel. In many cases these signs were just arrows pointing the way to the next major city or town.These signs were often made of wood and were seldom replaced if they fell down or got damaged. This prompted the Dept. of Public Highways. That was formed in 1916, to establish a provincial highway network that was introduced on Feb 6, 1920 and to take action creating official highway markers throughout the province. In 1925 the first official triangle shaped highway signs were introduced in Ontario with the words Provincial Highway above the number, and ONT. embossed below. The Dept of Highways changed its name to The Dept. of Public Highways and was responsible ... morefor establishing a network of Provincial highways with a numbering system which was planned in 1917. They held a provincial raffle to see who would get Highway# 1 leading into their town and a stretch of highway leading from Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie won the draw. Shortly after Hwy# 1 was omitted altogether from the 1925 route numbering system to eliminate conflicts between larger cities who all demanded to be on a highway bearing# 1 leading into their town and so the route numbering system began with highway# 2. 1923- Prototype Ontario Highway# 1 sign.The Emperor of Ontario highway signs. This steel oval shaped sign is approx. 12" X 18" with the shield. Number, letters and oval border are all embossed. The Ontario Coat of Arms decal is original and shows some wear in areas and the sign has a wear spot on the white background paint. 1925- 1st Issue Ontario Highway# 7 sign. This sign was the first example on Ontario highways and was replaced in 1927 altogether. These tin signs were the only year that the numbers and lettering were embossed and painted. This sign is very thick and extremely heavy. U.S. Highway 34 runs right through the town I live in here in Iowa so I thought it was really a cool find. It appears that it was painted with reflective paint originally. Even though most of it is cracked and faded or stained. This sign is authentic and is quite interesting and unique. Approximate Measurements The sign is 24" tall and 24" wide. Markings Highway 34 Condition Good condition with some minor dents. It has some moderate to severe scratches and staining. See pictures.
