This is a used working Superior Electric Powerstat S4006 panel-mount 3 amp variac in good condition. Also included are the mounting screws. The 0-100 dial and the knob. It has 5 connections that can be configured in a variety of ways. I tested the transformer applying 115 volts to connections 2 and 5 with the output connected to connection 2 and 3-the output measured from 0 to 140 volts as expected. The powerstat is fused. It is rated for 115 Volt, 60 Cycle AC primary and 0 to 135 VAC secondary. The powerstat is a variable autotransformer designed to provide a variable voltage to radios and amps. By slowly bringing up line voltage, one can begin to service these devices without risking full powerup, which could damage valuable components. The Powerstat is tested and it works fine. This is a vintage Superior Electric Co. Type Q 116 U Powerstat mounted is a very good home made wooden cabinet with a Weston 0- 150 volt meter. The Powerstat is 120 volts Primary. 0- 140 v Output, Max Amps 7 1/2, Max KVA 1, and it is single phase. The cabinet has a on/off switch, a pilot light, and it has the receptacle on the front and on the inside it does have a fuse to protect it. I did test it and it does work. A used variable transformer(aka"Variac" from the people who put the item on the map- The Superior Electric Co. out of Bristol. CT. I used this in motion picture photography to dim tungsten lights. But I know guitar AMP enthusiast also love'em. And they're a staple for bench work. This Powerstat unit is working perfectly. I tested the output voltage with a meter and the scale is pretty much dead on. The on/ off switch works. You are looking at their model 3 PN 117 B. Plate reads 0-120 volts out with a primary voltage in of 120V. 12 AMPS, single phase. For a constant impedance load of max 15 AMPS. 1.8 KVA. It does what it is supposed to do. I put a small piece of painters tape around the fuse because it wiggled a bit. The wiggle had no affect on current flow.
