Very nice. Early cross peen- tinners riveting/ machinists hammer. Handle appears original to the tool, although it is loose, and for use- would need to be replaced. The hammers' face has about a 3/4" diameter, and the edge on the other face is about 7/8" wide. The head length is approximately 4 1/2" long and it has quite a few old dings and dents and chips. From a older estate. This auction is for a vintage used special sheet metal/ tinners hammer marked: A.M.HEXDALL CO- HEXDALL SPECIALTIES- MORRIS, IL PAT. PEND. It looks as though it is used to get in tight square corners. I am listing another hammer that I believe is from the same company and will gladly combine shipping. The head on this hammer is 1 3/4" long x 1 1/4" wide x 1 1/4' thick. As seen in the photos the top is rounded over[ lengthwise and widthwise] and carries slightly down the top of the sides, which are otherwise flat, just like the bottom Length is 10 5/8" and weight is 12.7oz. This unusual sheet metal workers/ tinner's hammer came from a older estate. Although it is not marked. I believe this to be a vintage and seldom, if ever, seen variation of a A.M. Hexdall Co. Hexdall Specialies- Morris, ILL. Pat. Pend. sheet metal specialty hammer. I will be listing another different shaped hammer found with this one, and that one is marked with the Hexdall name. When researching the Hexdall Co I came across a patent[ 2,606,468- Aug. 12, 1952] see photos] for a hammer made by this company. In the pictures provided with the patent[ see figure 5 in the patent pictures] it shows this exact hammer head configuration that I have listed, and in the description of the hammer they state that figure 5 is a modified form of the hammer in the patent. The patent was for a hammer to be used for the" Pittsburgh Joint" along ... morewith other uses in tight square corners. I read were that patented hammer was hard to find, so I would think a modified variation would be even harder possibly, if it was even ever produced for trades. The handle looks original. It has a chip out of the bottom[ see photos. The head is mounted to the wood handle by a single set screw[ see photos. Head is 2 3/4" long x 1" thick x 1" wide. As seen in the photos, The side with the set screw is flat and the top is partially rounded. Each end has a"notch. See photos. Length of hammer is 10 1/2" and weight is 13.2oz. The handle is worn and slightly splintered at the end. On the head is a round stamped logo that's mostly missing. I can make out a letter H and on the bottom, BROSIC. It also has the original water applied label and some of it is missing pictures show condition.
