The front is made up of small square plates which are interlocked with round metal fasteners on the back. There are canvas bands with eyelets at both top(the belt) and bottom. The belt is fitted with a double-D ring fastener. The apron measures 16 inches tall by 20 inches wide. The canvas belt is 43 inches long. This is a heavy piece which weighs about 2 ½ pounds. The canvas chest strap is marked, U.S. I don't know if it's military or comes from another agency. It's made of stainless steel with a tab-maile construction. Perhaps the most protective"chain mail" of all. It's super tough and super strong. Straps around the neck and at the waist. The straps are made of heavy-weight canvas and are adjustable. This is a shorter apron- some of them go down around the thighs and strap to the legs- this one does not. It does fall just above the knee though depending on how tall you are and how you adjust it.
