You can also choose to wear it for an occasion as this object had a utilitarian function and is protective. Today. Health standards in France do not allow for their use, and these objects eventually disappeared, recycled for their metal. Offered is a vintage safety apron made of non-magnetic stainless steel. This is a well-made but unmarked apron. The front is made up of small square plates which are interlocked with round metal fasteners on the back. There are canvas bands with eyelets at both top(the belt) and bottom. The belt is fitted with a double-D ring fastener. The apron measures 16 inches tall by 20 inches wide. The canvas belt is 43 inches long. This is a heavy piece which weighs about 2 ½ pounds. Vintage stainless steel safety apron used by a family member when he worked in a meat-packing factory in the 1950s. Metal apron itself measures app.15½” x 19” The 42” canvas belt fastens with“D” rings and has two smaller“D” rings meant to be tied to trouser belt loops(to prevent sagging) Both top and bottom canvas strips are attached to the metal with grommets. The apron is made of small. Interlocking pieces of metal that make the apron very flexible and comfortable. Weighs about 2½ pounds. In excellent condition. With no sign of rust. Perhaps the most protective"chain mail" of all. It's super tough and super strong. Straps around the neck and at the waist. The straps are made of heavy-weight canvas and are adjustable. This is an apron from a Mental Hospital in the Detroit area of Michigan. The hospital was called Eloise and is located on Michigan Ave. West of Detroit in Westland, MI. It has D. Johnson printed in black ink on it and it says: Kit. Kitchen) A Inf. Infermary) I believe this apron is old and made of linen. It is in great condition and was in a box with others and may have never been used. This hospital is famous and said to be haunted. My exwifes grandmother worked there and used to torture the mental patients before it closed in the 60's and 70's. A movie was recently filmed here. Original ca.1870s Butcher w/ Apron & Knife & Crazy Tall Conical Animal Hide Hat
Ca.1870s Original vintage tintype by unidentified photographer. The tintype measures 2 5/16 by 3.25 inches and shows a butcher. Wearing an apron and holding a butcher's knife. What is odd here is the type of headgear he is wearing. For all intents and purposes, it appears to be the hide or skin of some type of animal. It rises off the top of his head by at least three feet and tapers off to point, perhaps an animal's head. When I acquired this tintype, it was housed in a leatherette case with cover glass, brass mat and preserver. The case measures 3 by 4.25 inches. However, I am not so sure that this tintype is original to the case. For one thing, it is not a great"fit" for the case. It is small enough that the brass folding mat just barely covers all four edges of the tintype. This causes me to believe that the tintype ... morewas"married" to the case sometime back. Nontheless, I will include the case and all the parts in this auction because this is the way I found it. A word about condition. This is a clear, but lower contrast tintype. It isn't nearly as dark as the scan showing it in the case. On the other hand, it isn't as"bright" as the scan showing it as a naked plate. It is somewhere in between and was tough to get a realistic scan. Fresh out of the Louisiana woodwork, where it was"picked" at a garage sale in southwestern Louisiana and brought directly to me at the Canton, Texas"First Monday" Trade Days last month.
