WT Avery Scale- Class C This scale has been in my family for about 50 years or more and was originally purchased at a very reputable antique shop- it has to be about 120 years old. I remember my grandmother used to put wrapped candy in the pans! W& T Avery Ltd. is a British manufacturer of weighing machines. The company was founded in the early 18th century and took the name W& T Avery in 1818 I am not knowledgeable about scales but from what I have been able to research. I think it is a beam scale. The wood base measures 21" x 10 1/2" and it is 27" high with the width of the bar measuring 20" I have not attempted to clean the brass at all because we prefer the original patina but it certainly can be polished. The lever(I think that is what the center bar is called) is marked W& T Avery Ld- Makers- Birmingham ... moreon each side and front and back. It is also marked CLASS C. I only have 3 weights: 20 DK. 10DK and 5 DK. This is a VERY HEAVY item. We have a smoke-free and pet-free home. What a wonderful collectible item!
