WILTON VISE TRADESMAN 1740, RARE 4" JAWS, EXCEPTIONAL!!!
Description Tradesman vises have been around since the 70's. The 1st models. 1740& 1750 were poorly made. If you call Wilton corporate, they will tell you these vises were made here. COO was fuzzy at best. A former Wilton employee told me at that time if the costs of the marketing effort exceeded the costs of the product that could actually effect Country of Origin of the product. I don't know. I do know their quality increased as time went on and by the later 80's& 90's made a decent Tradesman. Due to consumer pressure, Wilton finally pulled out, discontinuing the 1740. 1750.$ 1760. Today, all Tradesman's and made here and embossed on the side COO and width of the jaws. As mentioned, I'm not condemning all their discontinued Tradesman's. Actually the later model vises improved greatly over time but since ... morethe"Wilton" name was as American as Apple Pie, the USA consumer pressured Wilton Tool to present new models, all being made here. Again, COO with Wilton Tool Corp was not clear. This is a rare 1998 Model Tradesman 1740 that's stamped. There are 1750's& 1760's also that were made here but few. As you can see, this vise is in excellent condition. I cleaned, lubed, and removed its faded paint and repainted it a very close Tradesman color. Despite some small chips on the tops of the jaws, All 4 jaws are original to this vise and in excellent condition. The jaws align up perfect. Operation is flawless. The anvil and top slide show very light wear. All 3 handles are well above average. No welds, cracks or pieces missing. Fellas, this vise stuns in the photos and would look even nicer on your bench, tool cabinet or cart. Guys, small USA made 1740's don't come around ever day and with a"No Reserve" bears watching. Note! Despite the fact that this 1740 is about 20% heavier then its off shore counter part, this vise was made for light and light/medium work. Made in 1977,massively built, This was Wilton's premium professional vise line. This has seen just light one-owner hobby use in a home workshop since purchased new back then. Crisp unworn jaws,straight mainscrew& handle. Most of the original finish remains. Nice& tight operation with NO slop or play. Original handle rubbers.No cracks,damage or surprises.just good stuff:Just light work marks here& there. Some abrasions on top of swivel locknuts that just looks like errant filing on edges.Nothing horrible, see pics. Wilton 1645 Medium Duty Mechanics Bench Vise, 5" Jaws
Up for sale is a very nice looking Wilton 1645 medium duty bench vise. It has seen some use but it was light and the overall condition. Even before being cleaned/painted, was very good. This vise is a bit older and has some of the older design cues not seen on newer vises of this style. Lots of the parts are compatible with similar size"bullet" vises. The rounded 4 hole base. Lockdown assemblies and horseshoe retainer collar would bolt right on to a bullet vise. The jaws on the vise look good with lots of life to the serrated teeth. The pipe jaws are made of cold formed steel. Not machined steel, but still work great at holding round items This vise has 5" wide jaws and a throat depth of 3 3/4" it's max opening is 6" and weighs about 39 pounds. It has nicks, dings, rust, pitting, discoloration, scratches, chips, loss of finish, los of paint, the bushing for the base is a replacement, and the vise is dirty. Plain base vise, has 3 1/2" jaws, opens to max of 5 1/2" There are no cracks in the castings, original, blue paint is mostly gone, jaws have some small chips, please see the pictures, one jaw screw is a replacement. Rear cap is dinged. Vise has just been disassembled and greased. Working perfectly. This is from when Wilton was in Schiller Park, Ill. VINTAGE WILTON BULLET COMBINATION C-0 8C0 VISE 3 1/2" JAWS PIPE JAWS USA The vise is old but I'm no sure what year it was made. The vise is stamped"8CO" and weights 40 pounds. The vise has a swivel base but is missing the lock handle and has a replacement nut on the bottom side. The vise works good with little play in the handle when you open and close the jaws. Wilton Baby Bullet 2" vise and Wilton Pow-R-Arm 301.1
Here is a magnificent Baby Bullet and Wilton Pow-R-Arm 301.1. This is not a cobbled together unit. This is the way I received it and I believe it came from the factory configured this way. During my restoration process I found factory paint on the steel connector piece tying the baby bullet and pow-r-arm together. Both the vise and pow-r-arm function as new. The bronze jaws are excellent. The vice action is as new. I was torn about how to list these. Do I list them as two separate items or as one piece? Ultimately I decided that since this is such a rare combination and since they started life together they needed to stay together. I completely tore these down. Wire wheeled and buffed every piece, polished and waxed every bare metal section. That was folowed by 4 coats of Hammerite(NOT Rustoleum) and then 4 weeks of cure time for a hard original ... morefinish. Wilton 450 N Vise 4.5" bullet machinist vise
Here is my recently restored Wilton 450 N machinist bench vise. 4.5" wide jaws. This vise spent its entire life as a resident of the Albany NY High Schools Shop Class(I spent more time scraping gum out of EVERYWHERE as I did wire wheeling it) Excellent jaw inserts. Beautiful shaft, great handle and tight, tight action. Little or no lag in the handle/main screw. I tore this completely down. Degreased and wire wheeled every inch of the vise. Polished all the bare metal surfaces, buffed and waxed to avoid corrosion. Following all that I gave it 4 coats of Hammerite paint(NOT Rustoleum) for a hard beautiful finish. Allowed three weeks for complete curing before I offered this for sale. This is an excellent vise and you will be happy with it. This is a Palmgren No. 12 machinists vise base in outstanding condition! This vise base or holder locks your machinists vise tight by simply moving the lever. The attachment piece for the vise measures 1 3/4" X 2" and is spring loaded. This base works on other machinists vises though I don't know them all. This Palmgren base shows very little use and no abuse. There are no milling marks. No dings or dents, and all of the adjustments work as they should, nice and smooth. Snap On Extreme Green 1750 Swivel Combination Bench Vise 5" Jaws Wilton bullet
Full specs at the bottom of listing. Undoubtedly there's an awful lot of Snap On Extreme Green fans out there so I see no reason why you guys can't have a Snap On vise in your favorite color. We all know that Snap On never released a vise in this color but I had a red one come my way that needed refinishing so here we are. To the best of my knowledge this is the first Snap On vise painted this color. I don't think it's any secret that Wilton manufactured these vises for Snap On and that's a good thing because Wilton makes some of the world's best vises. This is a very nice 46.6 pound vise with 5" jaws in outstanding condition. Action is terrific. One finger liquid smooth. The jaws are all in good shape and the surfaces meet up parallel with even clamping power. There is a small nick on the bottom corner of one ... morejaw but it's out of the way and won't cause you any problems. There's no structural damage, welds or repairs. The anvil area shows a few working marks but it's pretty nice actually. Nothing bad to say about it and you're going to love your new vise, I guarantee it. I'll tell you a bit about the restoration now if you care to read. It's a fairly basic method. After a warm. Soapy scrub bath the paint is stripped with aviation gel and final cleanup takes place with a quick media blast. I prep the cast iron surfaces for paint and then warm them to 200 degrees. Then 3 coats of enamel are sprayed, each one being baked on at the same 200 ° for 30 minutes. All of the steel hardware is cleaned to look as good as it can. New rubber finger saver washers installed, synthetic grease is applied to the moving parts and then back together it goes. The Snap On badges were worn beyond repair so I chose a set of decals which I thought to be a good fit. The finished product is a gorgeous vise that works even better than it looks. Wilton Triple Duty QUICK RELEASE Swivel Bench Vise - 3-1/2" w/Pipe Jaw - RARE!
Very cool made in the USA. Wilton brand"triple duty" swiveling bench vise with 3-1/2" jaws and pipe jaw. This is a QUICK RELEASE vise; if you give the handle a turn counter-clockwise, the slide will slacken and allow you to adjust the vise outward as you wish. A few turns in and the vise is as strong and adjusts like any other. VERY COOL FEATURE! The vise is in great original condition, just came out of an old barn. I cleaned it inside and out with some oil and a rag but wanted to keep the original paint and patina, so I didn't hit it with any hares solvents or brushes. Looks like one of the jaws may have been replaced at some time as it is a tad bit larger but both jaws are in good, useable condition. Base swivels and locks into place as it should.
