The cross slide uses 5 adjustment screws and the compound uses 4 screws to control the linear motion of those coponents and it keeps the action nice an snug so that that there is no vibration or play in the feeds during turning. On older lathes. These screws are typcially damaged or broken over time as they were usually made of unhardened plain steel and the slotted head is easily broken if it is overtightened. A set of 10 will allow you to replace all of the fasteners and have one spare left over to keep in the drawer for future use. South Bend Lathe used an unusual size screw for this application(12-28 thread x 3/4" long with a slotted head and a flat point) so these are virtually impossible to find anywhere now days. But they are in nice used condition with many years of fishing left in them. I will describe them as follows: Two St. Croix 2-PC heavy action fiberglass rods No. 13BT-60MD-D 6 foot long. 20 to 30 pound line weight. These rods have the original eyelets except that one has a pulley at the tip which I believe is a replacement. The rods are exactly the same length. Both rods have new rubber butt ends installed on the end of the handles. The handles have been repainted. A South Bend made in USA FORESTER Tested Heavy Action 73" long. Sections are straight, Butt 34 5/8" Mid& Tips 34 3/4" and have a very minor fishing set when assembled. All wraps, ferrules, guides, reel seat and cork there and in good condition. Has its rod bag and tube(cap on tube has a dent and wont come off, so both cap and threads slide off tube) also in good condition. Here's a very nice South Bend Bamboo Fly Rod. This rod has seen very little use. I cleaned and polished it, its almost like new see pictures. It has whats left of the original price tag on the cork handle, I'll let the new owner remove it or leave it, see pictures. Every model#24 I've seen have been Bass Rod's HCH(7) wt. this is a HDH(6) wt. and for sure a trout-light ... morebass action. I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it, it casts a HDH(6) as well as any I've cast and lays a line really well. Someone wanting to try a bamboo rod this would be a good one, I don't think it should sell for a fortune and its a solid fisher. Spectacular 1940-42 SOUTH BEND #11 5' Split Bamboo Muskie "Double-Built" Casting
It's my pleasure to offer at auction an absolutely Extraordinary 1940-1942 SOUTH BEND NO.11 5 FT. 2-PIECE"DOUBLE-BUILT" SPLIT BAMBOO BAIT CASTING"MUSKIE" ROD WITH THE ORIGINAL, CORRECTLY MARKED BAG& ALUMINUM TUBE. One of two SUPERB South Bend rods I'm listing this week and easily the finest example of this model I've ever seen. As one of their longest-running models, the No.11 was South Bend Bait Company's most powerful bait casting(Muskie) rod from the mid 1920's right up until WWII. It was offered as a single-built model until 1938, when it would be changed to the"double-built" version for the remainder of production. Starting sometime in 1940, the rod was redesigned with longer grips, which is what you see here. I've added a photo of the original listing from South Bend's 1941 ... morecatalog. The rodshaft carries both the"South Bend Bait Company- Quality Tackle" and"Double- Built" oval logo decals, both in perfect condition. On a single flat is handwritten"11- 5' in black ink. Built with high-grade Tonkin cane and comes equipped with chromed stainless guides& tip top, high-quality chromed nickel silver serrated ferrules, NS winding check, elongated solid cork tournament grip& foregrip, heavy-duty chromed screw-locking reel seat and wound in black& green jasper silk tipped in yellow. Rod is in Extra Fine original condition and might be nearly impossible to upgrade. I never call a vintage rod"unused" but there is virtually no evidence to suggest this has been. I think that any faint wear is likely storage-related. Bamboo is perfect, with no splits, cracks or delamination whatsoever. Both sections are the correct length and are arrow-straight. Original varnish remains in great condition. All wraps are solid and complete. All guides, tip top, ferrules and winding check are excellent. The reel seat works perfectly, as one would expect. The solid cork grip& foregrip are superb and still have the velvety feel

Vintage fishing reels lot of 3: Penn, South Bend, Shakespeare
Up for bid are 3 vintage fishing reels. The 1st is a Penn Reels 101 spinning reel. 4:9:1 gear ratio. Looks good works great. I've used this spinner myself, I know that it works great. The 2nd is a South Bend SpinCast 63 Model A(Made in the USA) Good ole fashion reel that still works. Great as a collectable or take it 2 the lake! The 3d is a Shakespeare NO. 1765 Wonderflyte Model EG(also Made in the USA) Another good vintage reel but not in working order. Has all the pieces just doesn't engage after button is released. I don't really tinker with these but don't imagine it's a hard fix. All 3 of these reels are great collector pieces without the hefty price tag. And as you can see in the pictures it is missing the crank handle, so this one may just be for parts. The red one is a South Bend fly reel, Oren-O-Matic No. 1140, Model D, made in the USA. This one appears to be in good working condition. As you can see in the pictures they both have scuffs, scratches, and some worn paint, not to bad. Vintage South Bend no 4869,7' long spinning rod
Vintage 2 piece Southbend no. 4869-7' spinning rod. Rare fiberglass 1960s model, has 2 plastic reel mounting devices and regular reel mount so you could actually use it as a fly or spin rod,nice 3" lower cork handle with a rubber butt cap that's great shape and 6 1/2" upper cork handle with plastic reel mounts, metal ferrules, 5 guides + tip, on the lower section of the rod the first guide is barely bent on the upper and lower right side but doesn't affect performance of the rod,also the wrap just below the metal ferrule on the same section has a small part of the thread and shiny part of the wrap missing(the ferrule is still very tight and straight) minor paint loss on lower part of top section ferrule although it still fits together properly. I learned about and appreciated his desire for excellence and that it is not easily garnered, indeed, that perfection is a journey never a destination—one that is more often marked by sacrifice than success. I felt a need and sense of urgency to write about not only his legacy as a rodmaker, but his personage so that the forces shaping his life were better understood. Even today much is known about Wes Jordan, and his name is held in admiration by his peers, sportsmen, and authorities in the field. Still, I found my own knowledge and perspective of his life insufficient to tell the whole story of him as a fisherman first, then his fifty-five years as a rodmaker. Through the efforts of Dr. Todd Larson. Who was able to bring to the fore a wealth of historical information and contributions from spirited authorities, I was able to connect with my father’s past. As a result of writing this book, I have had the ironic benefit of coming to know my father from a number of different perspectives that enrich my life today. To know my father as others knew him—is perhaps the most rewarding experience I’ve had in writing his biography.

These rods were found at a recent estate sale. One is a True Temper Montague 7777. It is 6' long, one of the eyes on the rod has come loose and will need a little work, took a close up of that, it is the lighter color one. The other one is green 6.5' long, it is a South Bend Sea Master 5165. South Bend #973 Rain Bass Oreno, stamped SUB-STD
According to Terry Wong's wonderful and very informative book on South Bend Lures this color wooden. Glass eyed, 3 3/4" lure would have only been available from 1926- 1935 making it very difficult to find. The color was listed as rainbow and this one has the very difficult to find factory stamp SUB-STD on its belly. Overall it's condition is pretty good with age lines and a few scoffs and pointers, not bad for this hard to find piece. The fly rod is in 100% original condition having all the original eyelets and eyelet windings. This is a special high end rod that has a Mahogany wood handle. The rod has 100% of the original label on it. Printed on the first section of the rod is 57-9' Other than a couple of minor dings on the wood handle this rod is in perfect condition. South Bend Model#290 Bamboo Fly Rod 7' 6" Trout Action South Bend Model#290 Bamboo Fly Rod. Trout Action, 7' 6" E or HDH(5-6) Made in the USA. Sections are straight, Butt 45 1/2" Tips 45 3/8" and have a minor fishing set when assembled. All wraps, ferrules, guides, reel seat and cork there and in good condition. Has its rod bag and tube also in good condition. Here's a very nice South Bend#290 Bamboo Fly Rod. Being made before WWII its in really good condition see pictures. Rod bag is original and really dirty but you just cannot wash them because they shrink so bad, I'll leave it up to the new owner to have it dry cleaned or not. The rod tube is after market and way better than the cardboard tube they came in. I have not fished this rod but have lawn cast it, it casts a DT5 well and lays it nicely. This ... moreis a great rod for that small stream work, it has a beautiful little roll cast for those tight, brushy areas where the big ones hang out. Fished or collected it will not disappoint! This is a Cross Doublebuilt#155 8 1/2' 3/2 bamboo flyrod from South Bend Tackle companys Custom Shop. Serial# 0476772. It is circa 1932-1940. I got it in a trade 20 years ago and set it aside but have never fished with it. Always though of it as a collector rod. It is near mint condition. All pieces are full length and the wraps are excellent. You can fish with it the day you get it. It comes housed in the original sock and Custom Shop tube. It will ship by Priority Mail and be well packed. As always. If you don't like it, ship it back. P.S. There are NO repairs to the bamboo. On the butt section is printed"HCH or D" The weight printed on the label is 5.75 oz. This would be a fast action rating for a bamboo rod. Albeit not fast compared to carbon fiber. This is a#312 8 1/2' 3/2 bamboo flyrod from South Bend Tackle company. It is circa 1926-1932. I got it in a trade 15 years ago and set it aside but have never fished with it. It has real dark cane as the early rods did. Always though of it as a collector rod. It is in excellent condition with one minor varnish flake on the mid-section. All pieces are full length and the wraps are excellent. It comes housed in the original sock with the old style tip sock and tube. It will ship by Priority Mail and be well packed. As always. This vintage Worden's Bass"Krawler" is from F. G. Worden of South Bend.Indiana. It has a red and white body and red and white bucktail and the nickel and copper spinner is marked"4" It measures 5 inches tip to tip with the wood body measuring 7/8 of an inch. It is in excellent, probably unfished, condition. The 2 piece cardboard box is marked"KNR2" on the end and is in excellent condition with light tacklebox dirt. We accept PayPal.
