One of SBLW’s keys to its market dominance was SBLW’s painstaking effort to provide clear, well-illustrated, low-cost instructional materials on how to set up and run their tools, and how to use SBLW tools to perform a wide array of basic and advanced machining operations. The most widely known and sought after of SBLW’s publications was its classic pamphlet How to Run a Lathe. First published in 1914. How to Run a Lathe. was updated and reissued annually for decades. And has often been reprinted. The 1942 edition, in particular, is highly regarded as a thorough introduction to metal cutting lathe work, and is usually the first book placed in the hands of beginning students. The 1942 edition, which ran to 128 pages, was a mainstay of the Lindsay Technical Books catalog for two decades, and is still in wide demand. This edition is so dissimilar from the 1942 edition that they really should be considered separate books. Spindle speeds increased from belt-driven 150 to 275 rpm in the 1910s. To a range of 274 to 579 rpm using electric motors in the 1940s. Unusual Vintage South Bend Futura 101 Weird Push Lever Spincast Reel Patent Pending USA I purchased quite a few old unusual reels from an estate sale. This is one of them. It is in amazing condition cosmetically. I think this is a version of a push button type spincast reel but has a lever instead. The lever goes either direction to release the line and then when you reel it clicks and the lever goes back. This was made in the USA and reads patent pending. 7ft 6" South Bend Model 291 Bamboo Fly Rod
For sale is a 7 foot 6 inch 5/6 weight. 4 Piece, Bamboo Fly Rod made by South Bend Rod Company. These rods were meant to replicate the wonderful action of the South Bend Model#290 only to be able to break down to shorter sections for travel or packing. It is hard to find this model anymore. Especially in good shape. This fly rod is ideal for fishing small to medium size streams. I reconditioned this rod a couple of years ago. I installed a nickel silver 10.0 MM Agate Stripper to allow better line flow. One of the issues with the original guide spacing was there were not enough guides. I took care of that during the rebuild. I increased the number of guides with new snake guides and spaced them properly. This rod really is special when casting a 5 or 6 wt line. The rod comes with a Strong PVC Rod Tube and custom sock as well. I want to mention ... moretwo small imperfections. One is a small area in the cork grip where the previous owner hooked his fly. Small chips out of the cork. You can see in picture if you look closely. Also there was a small imperfection in the varnish on a spot on the tip. It is not a hook ding. But I dabbed it in Spar then put a very small matching repair wrap over it to be extra cautious. I have cast the rod and there is no issue what so ever. I really didn't need the wrap but did it anyway. You can notice it if you look real closely at a pictures. The wrap is located between the tip top and the next snake guide. If you like fishing“Brook Trout Streams” in the mountains you will love this Bamboo Fly Rod! PS: I will cover the cost of insurance during shipping I am certain this fly rod is in excellent condition and will stand behind it. Hello and thanks for looking in on my auction. The item you see here is a vintage South Bend Lure Company Pike Oreno lure. The lure itself is constructed of an all wooden body that measures roughly 7 1/4 inches from the blade to the rear hooks. Is jointed in the middle, has brass rivets for eyes, and clear coated not painted. The lure does show signs of use. Wear.and aging, and there is rust on the blade and hooks, but to be 100% honest until this one I personally have never seen one before. Highly collectible and sought after this lure would make an excellent addition to any collection! It comes in what I think is the original box(this is how I found it- the previous owner told me his father had never used it) which is marked and worn. Excellent #1150 South Bend fly reel in yellow box
The#1150. Introduced in 1933, is unique in it's construction. It was advertised as being"reinforced bakelite with a heavy cloth that was compressed and melted into the unit. You can still see traces of that cloth pattern in areas of the surface. It gives the reel a handsome mottled look. The reel is single action and has a workable on/off click button. It is very smooth and in excellent condition. The box has one notable flaw you can see on the top near the original $3.25 price. Priority mail with $7.00 flat fee.

South Bend #1170 St. Joe fly reel with excellent+ yellow box
In 1935. South Bend came out with the#1170 steel version of the St. Joe to eventually replace the more expensive brass#1180 which had survived more than a decade before. The steel versions were a better deal back then, but they had terrible problems with corrosion as one would suspect. It is rare to find one in the condition of the reel in this auction. You can see where some corrosion has started, but it is one of the best examples to be found. The box is the best I've seen in my long experience with the reels. The click works and the reel is smooth. Priority mail with a flat $7.00 fee.

Vintage Fishing Lure Plug Lot 3 South Bend, Paw Paw Wooden Lures Old School
For sale is a vintage Lot of 3 fishing lures that I purchased at an estate sale. The first two group photos were taken inside with a flash; the rest were taken outside under cloudy skies. I believe these to be wooden lures but I can only be sure of one. I know the brown lure is wooden because some of the paint has been worn away revealing the wood underneath. It is a“South Bend” lure. The longer pink. Green, yellow lure has the name“Paw-Paw” under its metal lip. It is about 4.5 inches long. The yellow lure I can find no markings. Incredible South Bend Vintage Midget Underwater Minnow Wood Lure Combo 901 SW
Up for auction– A spectacular South Bend Midget Minnow Combo with an extremely rare box. This is the 4 and ½ inch South Bend Minnow box and only a few are known to exist. None of the existing ones are marked or complete. Thus the timeframe of the box and what lure came in the box were unknown. I think Marie Munson has something on her sight about this. But then I found this one. It is correctly marked 901 SW and contains the original Midget Underwater Minnow lure and paperwork. This box dates to around 1920 or so and I believe must have been used for the Midget Minnow lures before the intro box that said Midget Minnow on the top was introduced. I think it is one of the rarest/historically significant South Bend combos out there. The lure has some hairline cracks overall, a chip behind the right eye, and a chip on the belly, but is still ... morein very nice, easily presentable condition overall.
