Up for auction is a pexto cable cutters/ stripper linesman tool. It is made in the usa and it is marked bell system. It is in very good as found condition. The the blades are used but not abused. the bottom blade is adjustable. the finish is 95% intact. There is only very minor spots of surface rust. Nothing major at all. the new owner will need to spend a minute or two cleaning this tool. Vintage Pexto 7" Gas Burner Plier No 13-8
This Vintage Pexto 7" Gas Burner Plier No 13-8 has been gently restored. What does gently restored mean? The overall objective is to preserve as much as the old tool or item with its lifetime patina as possible without the use of power tools. Metal is typically initially cleaned using mineral oil. Or a weak solution of washing soda and water and if necessary brief electrolysis to remove and or convert rust to black oxide. Whichever method is best, a scotch brite plastic cleaning pad is used with water so the underlying metal is not damaged. A heat gun is immediately used to blow dry and eliminate moisture which is followed by a hand rubbed coat of mineral oil. After letting the oil“soak in” for a day or so, the item is wiped cleaned then hand rub in bees wax to seal it. A weak solution of oil soap and water is used to remove grime, old ... moreoils and dirt from wood which is air or blowed dry with a heat gun. This is followed by a hand rub of“feed and wax" Normally all other materials are simply wiped clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth as appropriate. If the situation requires it, a soft brass bristle brush or“0000” steel wool is used occasionally. A couple of items should be noted. The first is this gentle process may not remove all rust or dirt, etc, as there is always a balance of limiting restoration to not affect patina. The second is that tools and items are not conditioned for use such as sharpening, tightening or replacement of parts. This is left up to the judgement of the new owner as there is a large range of utilization of older tools. Lastly, the item may have residual oil left in the cleaning process. This can be wiped off but the item may benefit from an additional application of clear oil to further enhance and stabilize the item for extended life. This is a WHITNEY No. 8 hand punch. Has 5 tons of punching power. This hand punch can pop a 1/4" hole through 1/4" thick mild steel in seconds. Needs no electricity. Which is a plus for some job site installs/fabricating. Very quick and convenient, great time saver. The WHITNEY has roller bearings in the working end. Much better than the Whitney No. 2 punches. Comes with 2 punch& die sets: 1- 7/32" And 1- 281" Both round. The 7/32" is in like new condition, the larger was used more, shows more wear, however works fine, this is the size I used for the test sample. There is a mounting base. Here I have a very nice vintage Peck Stow& Wilcox Co. Also known as PEXTO, Tinsmith BURRING MACHINE no. 540-1. It is in marvelous condition even includes the nameplate, pic 8, on the top that are so often missing. This machine is/was used for creasing the rim of a cover for a pail or boiler. It was also used for preparing circular edges of vessels for double seaming: ie- Dictionary of American Hand Tools. The rollers are 1-1/2" in diameter and look very good. Gears look good, wood handle and crank in very good condition. It is just a nice little tool. Pictures tell the story. 2 Antique Vintage Adjustable Monkey Wrenches, 12-1/4" PEXTO and 6-1/2" Unknown
This auction is for 2 antique monkey wrenches. Both tools have some rust. Marks(from hammers/pliers? and wear. Considering their age, the 12-1/4" wrench is in good condition, and the 6-1/2" wrench is in fair condition. The wooden handles are intact. Both adjustment screws work, the smaller one not as well as the larger one. The lower jaw on the smaller wrench is very worn and appears slightly twisted. The larger wrench is marked with the initials"WR" See all photos for a better idea of condition. I do not know the exact age of these wrenches. But the manufacturer of the larger wrench is PEXTO(Peck, Stow, Wilcox Co. PEXTO manufactured tools during the later 19th and early 20th centuries. The patent for their"Solid Bar" wrench was issued in 1896, but the PEXTO oval logo which is on this wrench was first used in ... moremid 1914, which means this wrench is likely newer than 1914. This wrench opens to approximately 2-1/4" The only readable stamps on the smaller wrench are the number"2" and"NEW YORK" This wrench opens to approximately 1-1/4" I ship only to the lower 48 states.
