vintage CAST IRON circle cutting Arbor PRESS / Button Making ? metal or Leather
Offered without reserve is vintage cast iron press that has 2 levers and 2 circle cutter dies. I do not know just what this was designed to cut but suspect it may have been made to cut button discs or pieces of leather? The press cut a nice circle in my test piece of thick cardboard. I think it would cut thin metal like the type used in buttons or leather pieces. The small circles punched are approx. 1 1/8" in diameter, the large die makes a 2 3/4" circle. The side of the machine has a brass tag that reads; patent applied for P H Horan& Co. Boston Mass USA. The base measures approx. 5" wide by 12" long, it would fasten or bolt at the center with the 2 die ends overhanging so the cutting could drop from the bottom. The base measures approximately 10-1/4" x 6" It is 15" high with the base/extensions. 13" high for just the machine. It can be used as an arbor press or as a small manual brake press. I used these for a couple jobs that where small complicated parts that needed to be formed. I would set up all of the machines for different steps in the same part, it worked excellent! Regulator 0-160 psi Gauge Just the press and air cylinder are currenly selling at MSC Industrial Supply and other places for $340. Not including the foot pedal, manifold, etc. This press and the H-42 air cylinder are cast iron. The foot pedal assembly is also cast iron with the actual pedal a cast aluminum(silver in the pics) The foot pedal assembly includes a Mead 3C-1 3-way valve. But other valves can be installed. This system was working when removed from service. And had seen light use. There are no cracks, welds or other repairs. You will need to seal all fittings and install your own 1/4" air hose.
