I used this with a Garmin 305 for six months or so. About two years ago. It worked perfectly when I used it, but full disclosure: It's been sitting for over a year. So the battery is probably dead. They cost a few bucks. I replaced the crank magnet with rare earth magnets. Most road cranks have the hole for the pedal spindle go all the way through the crank arm; these magnets are long enough that they stick to the end of the spindle and stick out from there. The magnets are very strong. So don't worry about them falling off- rather, worry about getting some skin taken off your finger if you let the two magnets fly together from a distance. These come assembled. You'll need to take them apart(we'll include the bit that fits your drill for this) Two star screws(Again, well send the bit) and 4 magnetic assemblies. Once you get it apart(2 screws) you get two strong NdFeB rare earth magnets. Each attached to a steel backing plate. See the pictures, but one of these(you get 8 once you disassemble everything) will. under ideal conditions pick up over 50 pounds of steel. The magnets are either steel housed or have steel and a ferrite ring around them. Some are all ferrite. The sizes range from a half inch to 2 and 3/4 inches in diameter. These magnets are very useful almost anywhere. The shop, office, home etc. Some of the magnets may have some scratches but are otherwise good. The scratches are caused when I need to pry the magnet from the steel cone. Most of the scratches occur on the magnet housing and not usually on the magnet.
