HUGE PERMANENT MAGNET - 6500 GAUSS 12x11x6 INCHES - REVISED
Up for auction is one large permanent magnet. The pole faces measure approximately two inches in diameter and the pole gap is approximately 1/2 inch. We measured the field to be approximately 6500 Gauss between the poles. The field is very uniform out to near the edge of the pole faces. We understand this was once from a Varian Nuclear Magneto Resonance Spectrometer of the 60MHz variety. It comes with the NMRS probe which has the plastic specimen carrier installed. The plastic carrier looks like the top is broken off but appears to be servicable. One of the poles has a coil wrapped around it doubtless to modulate/trim the field. This is a used permanent magnet brushed servo motor rated for continuous use at 216 volts and 466 amps. That is 100 kilowatts. Or 135 horsepower. I do not have information about it's peak amperage and HP ability but generally, permanent magnet motors can handle approx. 200% of their continuous rating for 1 minute or less. This would mean that this motor is capable of 270 horsepower for 1 minute! The motor is rated for 2123 in. lbs. or 177 ft. lbs. of peak stall torque. Motor would be best for 144-216v application. As a brushed permanent magnet motor it is fully capable of regenerative braking or as a generator. The primary shaft is keyed and has a 1 3/8" diameter.
