Recently purchased at an Estate sale in my area and now up for your auctioning pleasure is this antique USG SUPERGAUGE. Founded in 1904. U.S. Gauge, was one of the worlds leading suppliers of high quality pressure and temperature measurement products. For over 100 years, the processing industries have relied on USG for accurate and reliable pressure measurements. The Company began operations in Sellersville, PA, eventually becoming so big that entire city blocks were used to accommodate their many buildings. During its peak, between 1920's thru the 1960's, the Company employed thousands of people. U.S. Gauge is now a division of Ametek with operations still in Sellersville but on a much smaller scale. Most of the older historical buildings were taken down in 1993 and replaced with green space. Now that you have learned a bit of this ... moreCompanies history, I will describe the gauge that is up for auction! I have researched the Company and have looked at a variety of gauges that they produced over the years. I cannot give a precise date on the production of this particular gauge but my guess would be between the 1920's-60's. The body is a flat black color and appears to be made of cast iron. The body, which is approx. 4 1/2" across and approx. 2" thick, also has a flared backplate that is approx. 5 15/16" across. Around the edge of this backplate are(3) mounting holes. At the bottom of the body is the threaded attachment nipple, which is approx. 1 5/8" long x 13/16" wide. Looking down onto the front of the SuperGauge, you have an aluminum or silver colored face with a black needle mounted in its center. Around the perimeter of the face are the pressure measurements documented in black. They are marked in increments of 100 PSI while the smaller tickmarks in between them are in increments of 10 PSI. This particular USG Supergauge registers to 1000 PSI. On the bottom of the face is the name SUPERGAUGE with the initials USG in a black cross. Below the cross is the Company name, U.S.
