Weighs approximately 6 pounds 10 ounces. Gauge indicates there are patent dates inside but we did not open the gauge. Also marked Made In USA- Quality and with Vacuum and Pressure on the dial. This is a great old pressure gauge made in New York by The Ashcroft Co. It measures 7 1/4" across the face and is 2 1/4" deep. Has a glass front with a brass face and rim. The base is cast iron. Untested. Sold as-is. It is in very good condition, clean and straight. Does have 2 small dings in the front brass rim. Shipping is $11.35 maximum, the further west the cheaper. This i s a Brass with Steel face ASHC ROFT Mfg Co of New York Steam Gauge rated u p to 300 pounds of pressure. Likely a boiler gauge during its course of use it is very good original condition. The glass is pristine the brass is shiny and not dinged up. And the steel face is still bright and easy to read. The gauge measures 7 1/4" across the front face and 8 inches across the back panel. the stem is good shape with no damage at all to the conn ection. (7) Vintage Industrial Gauges Steampunk? Grinnell US Gauge Ashcroft Marsh
This is set of(7) various industrial gauges I recently found while cleaning my parent's basement. I know very little about them except they are all at least 35+ years old. Some a lot more. I don't know if any work. The brass one marked"Grinnell" is very nice with good plating, no dents and a beveled glass face. The red one marked"American Radiator Company" and"Retard" is the only one I'm sure is not working(indicator needle is bent and there is a loose spring rolling around the face) All appear to measure pressure or vacuum(air, water, steam etc. Various manufacturers including US Gauge, Ashcroft and Jas.P.Marsh. Gauge has some weld spatter on the back, one spot on the bottom with minor shelf wear. There are some blemishes on the front lens. My intent was to wall mount it so I could monitor(from across the shop) air pressure in my compressed air system when I was sand blasting. From the patent number, partly covered at the bottom of the gauge we can we can date this to the 1890s. Over 160 years ago, Edward Ashcroft saw the need for safer, more sophisticated pressure and temperature instruments for use in the emerging steam industry. In response, he introduced a then-revolutionary new Bourdon tube pressure gauge just one of many innovations in the industry that can be attributed to him. Edward H. Ashcroft of Lynn, Massachusetts bought the American rights to a French pressure guage design and founded the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company in 1852 to make pressure gauges for steam engines. The firm had offices at 87 liberty St. New York City, and also in Bridgeport, ... moreCT. Their internal- and external-spring Tabor indicators, pressure gauges(water, pressure, atmosphere etc) counters, alarms, indicators, and pipe fitter and machinists tools for steam engines were manufactured from about 1852 to the WWI period, when the company was sold in 1912. Some of their products are still being manufactured today as the best in the field by the surviving company, Dresser Industries. Their early catalogs dating back to 1890 are occasionally available on the internet. One might argue that it was people like Ashcroft who facilitated expansion of the railroads and the country's industrial might. RARE Ashcroft Grinnell Company antique old steam engine air sprinkler gauge!!!!
Up for bids is an old Ashcroft air pressure gauge from Grinnell Company in Providence RI. Its untested and most likely not in working condition but again it has not been tested. It measures 4 7/8" diameter and it has original patina and wear to it. It has a glass face and an original dial. The dial does show some signs of age with some corrosion on one of the edges see pics. The air inlet in the bottom looks plugged but more than likely it could be cleaned out. It does have a face that is threaded on but I did not try to take it off to avoid damage to the gauge. This would also make a great piece for a steam engine collector or for a nice looking display. Sold is where is and again its untested and working condition is unknown.
