This is not the prettiest speaker. From a few feet away or from behind a grill though. It should be just fine. This one had a bad re-foam job, heavy on the glue, and WAY off-center where the voice coil rubbed. They had also done some cosmetic damage when removing the foam and pulled some paper from the front of the speaker. It was re-foamed today correctly(although it is still a bit ugly from the prior re-foam) It plays just fine and pounds the bass like any Cerwin Vega. Cone has been painted as recommended by Simply Speakers to pretty it up some. Cosmetically not the best. mechanically just fine. This is a Cerwin Vega woofer removed from a D5 cabinet(little brother to the legendary D9) Cerwin-Vega designs and manufactures its own woofers at its home facility in California. Rugged cast aluminum woofer frames provide rigidity and precision ... morefor tighter tolerances and higher overall efficiency as they do not flex or introduce vibrations like the cheaper stamped steel baskets used by the competition. This is a barely used Weber CV123 ceramic 12" guitar speaker. It is a 100 watt speaker. With aluminum vented dust cap, 8ohms. These are great speakers- webers clone of the legendary Cerwin Vega 123 speaker- essentially a JBL, but slightly less harsh high end. This one was in a Tweed Deluxe(15 watts max) for about 4 months. Only produced from the mid 40's to mid 50's. This Duo-Tron features a solid spruce top and figured back/sides. The woods here have aged beautifully, resulting in a mellow, warm resonance, with excellent projection. Chords have a very even sound with each note finding its own place in the sonic spectrum. Single note lines have a full sound. A great overall jazz tone. The neck has good mass for tone transfer- 87" deep at the 5th ... morefret with a C profile. Very rare,according to the experts on Banjohangout. The banjo is in great shape. Dead straight neck,tuners work fine,plating is excellent. There are a few minor finish chips,but no cracks,breaks or repairs. It sounds extraordinarily good. Powerful and clear.Less harsh and cutting than a Gibson Mastertone,with a warm bottom end that reminds me of a'20s Vega,its a delightful banjo to play. The gold hooks have wear as most old Vega hooks do but the tension hoop and shoes are a rich aged gold. The nickel finished nuts. Tubaphone tone ring and bracket band looks like new but are the original for the 1920's. The shin head is in super condition. Original 1930s Vega "Whyte Laydie" Style R 19-fret tenor banjo neck

This is a very attractive and very clean maplee neck with bound ebony fingerboard and original finish. It is completely original down to the frets and string nut. There are the usual surface checks in the dyed pearwood peghead veneer but nothing seems to be loose or in need of attention. The Mother Of Pearl star is engraved with VEGA name. Original finish and frets both show very little playing wear with the exception of the heel area where the neck joined the rim where some finish has flaked away. This came on an original standard size(10 15/16" diameter) Whyte Laydie" and should be an easy fit to most any original Vega banjo. 1927 Vega "Little Wonder" Banjo Boston, MA
Now up for sale if this great banjo from The Vega Company made in Boston. MA. The serial number is 76,084 which places it's manufacturing date during the middle of 1927. This banjo is in wonderful condition and is mostly original except I think for the skin and bridge. The neck is very straight and there is practically no damage other than some expected wear and tear. Plenty of pictures are provided from multiple angles so view and judge for yourself I'm sure you will be pleased with the condition. I also will be trying to have the problem with the loose tuning knobs professionally fixed in the meantime.

The bass is abundant. Tight and precise without being overtly boomy. The midrange and vocal reproduction capabilities are pleasant and well-defined. The horn tweeters are precise at all listining levels. The DX line is one of Cerwin-Vega's older lines, but are one of their best ones. The DX-s sound more accurate than the AT-8's and the VS-80's.
