Ok. This one needs some research. We found this in a Union winter camp in Stafford, Va. It is made of sheet brass and has multiple graduating lines on it. At the top it starts at 120 and goes down. At every 10, it says"Blood& Heat" At the top, it says"Benjn. Pike& cut off) then"294 Broadway New York" Benjamin Pike& Sons was in business from 1841 to 1867. They were makers of optical instruments such as microscopes, survey equipment, etc. They also made numerous types of medical instruments. Further research could turn up something real interesting. 1930'S Brass U.S. Gauge N.Y. Displayed On Old Barn Wood
1930's brass 30 gauge by U.S. Gauge co. N.Y. Repurposed as folk art/wall art using a rustic piece of American North eastern barn wood that's well over 100 years old. Look at the pictures and tell by the grain and knots that the wood is extremely solid and almost feels like petrified wood. This piece is secured to a chain by black military grade clips that are fastened using period(1930-40's) flat head hardware. The actual gauge is fastened with the same but smaller screws to fit the face. The chain is a nautical oxidized piece of chain that just fits the piece perfectly and adds character to the wood/metal orchestration of genius. Denver. The scale is 0-30 from the Jas. P. Marsh& Company. The needle is free and responds to pressure through the fitting. But I don’t have the fittings or equipment to test its accuracy, so while it might be fully functional, I have to list it as untested and for parts. However it has a wonderful patina and the signs of good, honest use that will make it a wonderful industrial art display piece either on a shelf or on the wall. For some reason the camera flash shifted the color a little. So I’ve included a shot without it. I had to use the flash, though, to show some of the details. Beautiful Vintage 1912 Brass& Steel Altitude Gauge. I could not find any other info about this. The size is about 5 3/4" across. The condition is very good. Please look at all pics and judge condition for yourself. There is still some tarnish that appears as a reddish line around the brass surface. Shadows on some of the pics appear as dents but the next pics show the surface better. This would make a beautiful decorator piece or a great addition to any collection. Feel free to ask questions. Here is a Water Altitude Gauge Face manufactured by J.L. Mott Iron Works probably 19th century. They began in 1828 and produced plumbing. Cast iron item such as stoves, grates, statuary and brass items such as this finely stamped gauge face. Not sure if they made the gauge itself. This face measures 4" diameter. It retains a blackish coppery patina and the gold color of the stamped lettering is about 75% there. gauge increment grooves seen around the perimeter. another small logo can be seen at very bottom possibly the actual gauge makers mark. This Walker's Trident ship log is used for measure current whether from a ship or from anywhere over moving water from what i gather. Not my forte folks! The main unit is about 10 lbs and the other two pieces weigh in at 5 lbs each. Everything appears to be present and in functional free moving condition. The main gauge has a front diameter of 5 1/4 inches and is about 10 1/2 inches from front to back. The"wheel" is about 10 1/2 in diameter.
