Really nice antique steam pressure gauge. It's a double spring Ashcroft gauge made for The Babcock& Wilcox Company. They pioneered steam boilers across a wide variety of industries. It has a brass cover ring and the housing unit is iron. This particular gauge came out of a house clean up from an old train conductor. Similar gauges I have seen only go up too 300 and this one goes up to 400. I am also selling the bracket that came with it. The gauge is about 13.5" across and weighs probably about 30-35 lbs. Vtg. Antique Ashcroft Brass Steam Pressure Gauge Steampunk Mancave Big & Heavy
I have available a Ashcroft pressure gauge manufactured by Ashcroft Mfg. Co. New York. The gauge reads 0-160(pounds per square inch I assume) solid brass housing with all its natural patina. The gauge's glass face is in great condition with no issues whatsoever. This unit is a hefty 12 plus pounds. The gauge face is 9 7/8" diameter. The rear flange is 10 1/4" diameter, width is 2 1/2" An point of interest is that the rear flange shows markings where one can see that this gauge was turned on a lathe out of brass. They just don't make things like this anymore. Some quick research has revealed that the Ashcroft Mfg. Co. New York was founded by Edward H. Ashcroft in 1852 to make pressure gauges for steam engines. Gauges were manufactured from 1852 to the WWI period. The company was sold in 1912 to Dresser Industries. Up for auction is an antique Ashcroft's altitude boiler gauge. The gauge is in excellent condition. Clear glass, nice brass bezel and black dial. The gauge measures 6" from one side of the bezel to the other. The total length including the fitting is 8.5" It is registered 1898. The J.H. It is a sturdy(maybe stainless steel? air cylinder with stabilizing"feet" welded on. The right side of the cylinder has a tapped port for various air chuck sizes. The left side has a manual pressure release valve. Along the top there are tapped ports for the two gauges. The left gauge is an Ashcroft Temperature Compensated Test Gauge. 0-1,500 psi with 5 psi subdivisions. The Ashcroft Gauge face has"Accuracy Grade 3A 25% on its face. The Ashcroft Gauge still has the Gaugemaker's Certification label signed by Betty Costanzo! The right gauge is a USG Solfrunt 0-1,000 psi gauge with 10 psi subdivisions. The right tapped port has a ... morequick-disconnect mounted. This item was salvaged from a now-defunct company whose main manufacturing business was the construction of railway tank cars. Our best guess is that this is a test rig that was used by the employees to calibrate the pressure test gauges that you would expect to be used by a company manufacturing rail tank cars. Please see the pix for more details. We pressure tested the rig on a 95psi shop air system and both gauges worked fine and no leaks were noticed in the test rig.
