L.S. Starrett Co No. 454 height gauge 13" with orig. wooden case
Hello. Up for bid is an L. S. Starrett 13" height gauge with original box. I suppose it would be considered a 12" But it does seem to be marked to measure to 13" The tool is about 15" overall length and comes with two scribes(one is on the tool already) and another tool as seen in the pic below. I do not know if this is a complete set, it is how I obtained it from an estate. There are some minor surface rust spots(mostly on the foot and on the back of the bar) and some scuff marks overall, but they don't seem to affect the use of the tool and can probably be cleaned off(I'll leave that to the winning bidder) The case is in fair condition. But all hinges and the latch are intact and working fine. There is a number(422158) etched on the foot of the tool and a matching number can just barely be seen on the upper right ... morecorner of the top of the case(you really can't see it in the pic below, but the numbers do match) This tool has not been checked for accuracy.but it does not appear to be damaged. Tool comes in what appears to be the original wooden box with a dovetailed sliding lid and misc. parts and pieces in the bottom of the box. No idea how many of the small parts. If any, came with the tool originally. We don't know anything about the tool, so please ask questions if you need detailed information. Looks to be intact and in working condition, parts all move and slide freely and easily. Some light surface rust in places, does not appear to be pitted or deep. Box is heavy and well made, one side looks to be just slightly warped and this has caused the nail in that top corner to pull out just a little. Have fun finding out who can't read a Vernier scale too! The gage& most accessories are in good condition and work as they should with the only negatives being some light scratches from normal use. Stains on the scale as shown, chipped corners on one scriber and some engraving on pieces from the previous owner. The wooden case is only in fair condition(visually) mainly on the outside, but could be refinished. The gage is a Vernier scale in 1/1000" increments with fine adjustment and is easily readable and accurate. Accessories include: Mounting Clamp Straight Scriber. Included with this great height gauge are 2 clamps. 3” carbide tipped scriber, 2” h/s offset scriber, 6” 8” h/s scribers. The slide moves smoothly throughout the full range. No dings etc. on the measuring surfaces or base, some very light rust/oxidation. The fine adjustment threads are good and they work smoothly. All the numbers are easily readable. Overall in very nice used condition. There are etchings on base and slide. The mahogany case is in very good condition, with some minor scratches& scuffs and an area on top where a sticker or notice must have been taped on.
