vintage untested 10000 psi Ashcroft 1850 USA gauge. Measures approx. 8" high with the attached fitting. gauge is 5 3/4"x2" Equipped with slotted link. patent dated inside. There is a 5/23 on a worn Caliper Co. sticker on the back. Not sure if it's a date. VINTAGE ASHCROFT MANUFACTURING COMPANY AIR PRESSURE GAUGE – 160 PSI
For today’s auction. We are featuring a vintage air pressure(or possibly steam) gauge that was manufactured by the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company out of New York. Edward H. Ashcroft of Lynn. Massachusetts bought the American rights to a French pressure guage design and founded the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company in 1852 to make pressure gauges for steam engines. The firm had offices at 87 liberty St. New York City. And also in Bridgeport. CT. Their internal- and external-spring Tabor indicators. Pressure gauges(water, pressure, atmosphere etc) counters, alarms, indicators, and pipe fitter and machinists tools for steam engines were manufactured from about 1852 to the WWI period, when the company was sold in 1912. Some of their products are still being manufactured today as the best in the field by the surviving company, Dresser Industries. ... moreOne might argue that it was people like Ashcroft who facilitated expansion of the railroads and the country's industrial might. Without a reliable means of measuring and controlling steam pressure. Locomotives, steamships, and even the humble heating boiler would never have flourished as they did. Ashcroft, though, didn't have just one feather in his cap. A few years after launching the pressure gauge, he collaborated with George W. Richardson in New York to develop a spring-loaded safety valve that still exists today as the Consolidated Safety Valve. This heavy duty gauge is numbered#83397 and will record readings up to 160(PSI we presume) This gauge appears to be made of heavy brass. As far as we can tell. This sealed gauge is still fully functional. This vintage Ashcroft gauge measures approximately 6” in diameter in regards to the viewable gauge portion. The black painted base measures approximately 6.75” in diameter. The approximate width is noted to be 2– 1/8” Please note that this vintage gauge is previously used but is still in very nice condition. We do note the presence of some fine. Vintage Ashcroft 4.75 inch PSIG Gauge
This is an Ashcroft 160 lb PSIG gauge. the glass is good- no cracks. The housing is painted black and is completely rusted.more so near the top and back. The inside face of the gauge is faded and dirty. It is pegged at 20. The outside diameter of the front face is 4.75 inches. This gauge has served its time well. I of course have no idea if it works. it would make a great addition to your steam punk collection.
