Common shop air compressor shut-off pressure values typically hover from about 120 pounds per square inch up to about 160 PSI. When running air tools. It is pleasing to be able to glance toward your air supply connection to see how your compressor's pressure is keeping up your shop's demands. A common 2-inch gauge is just fine for up-close viewing. Typically applied to the compressor. But trying to read that 2-inch gauge from across the shop where you may be working is just an exercise in frustration. So here's a classy solution. This 6-inch base American Ashcroft pressure gauge has a large. Highly visible black pointer in front of a very clearly laid-out white background with large 0 to 150 PSI font face plate covered by a GLASS(not plastic) window and wide decorative brass surround ring. Even a quick glance from 20 feet is enough ... moreto inform you of how your pressure is holding up so you can guide your actions accordingly. The sweep dial's markings correspond to ~ 45-degrees = 50 psi. The bottom section of the sweep dial does not bear psi markings. But if someone wants to drive this with another 50 psi. That 200 psi just rotates the pointer all the way around to the 0-stop post without causing any gauge damage. For today’s auction. We are featuring a vintage air pressure(or possibly steam) gauge that was manufactured by the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company out of New York. Edward H. Ashcroft of Lynn. Massachusetts bought the American rights to a French pressure guage design and founded the Ashcroft Manufacturing Company in 1852 to make pressure gauges for steam engines. The firm had offices at 87 liberty St. New York City. And also in Bridgeport. CT. Their internal- and external-spring Tabor indicators. Pressure gauges(water, pressure, atmosphere etc) counters, alarms, indicators, and pipe fitter and machinists tools for steam engines were manufactured from about 1852 to the WWI period, when the company was sold in 1912. Some of their products are still being manufactured today as the best in the field by the surviving company, Dresser Industries. ... moreOne might argue that it was people like Ashcroft who facilitated expansion of the railroads and the country's industrial might. Without a reliable means of measuring and controlling steam pressure. Locomotives, steamships, and even the humble heating boiler would never have flourished as they did.
