Anchor Hocking 1 Quart Drum Clear Glass Fish Bowl(s) - Buy It Now Dutch Auction!
Here we have a Buy It Now Dutch Auction for Anchor Hocking 1 Quart Drum shaped clear solid glass fish bowls in gently used condition. These fish bowls measure 5.5" high by 3.5" wide and are represented by the smallest fish bowl(far left) in my picture. They are free of chips or cracks but have some wear and signs of prior use. This is a great size and shape if you like to keep Siamese Fighting Fish. Male bettas are highly territorial and must be kept apart from other male bettas. However. Because they are Anabantids, they have a labyrinth organ that acts like a lung and allows them to breathe atmospheric air so you can keep them in small bowls like this and they will do fine. When you line up a number of male bettas in these drum shaped bowls they will get exercise as they flare their gills and show off their fins to the other male ... morebettas. While there are some who think this is cruel, it is not because it does not allow the bettas to fight and hurt each other and it gives them exercise which improves appetite and builds stamina. Each year many male bettas die when placed in community fish tanks where their large fins are attacked by other faster moving fish or they pine away alone with nothing to do and nothing to live for. After raising bettas for years, keeping them, breeding them and studying them, I highly recommend the drum shaped fish bowl for keeping male bettas. If you only have one you can still benefit from the shape of the bowl by taping a small mirror to one of the flat sides. Your betta will see his reflection in the mirror and get his exercise that way. Vintage 1 Quart Oil Jar with Master Spout. Spout has no dents. But the top of the spout has some areas that are different color than the rest(see photos) I don't know if some of the finish rubbed off, or if it isn't tarnished like the rest. Most of the spout is a very uniform color. Inside of the spout looks very shiny and clean, including the cork seal. Wording on the spout says"The Master Mfg. Co Litchfield. ILL. Patd. Sept. 14, 1926. Glass jar is extremely clean and looks like it never had oil in it. With no chips. Wording on the jar is difficult to photograph, Top has"Fill to Line" followed by a square with"MASS O-11-B SEAL" The top of the wide part of the jar says"ONE LIQUID QUART. Botttom of the jar has"PA. And jar rubber on; compared to a clear quart Atlas Strong Shoulder(picture 2) for color; has heavy swirling in base with a raised pontil.
