Item Description Tribe: SUKUMA Country: Tanzania The SUKUMA people are one of the tribes(together with NYAMEZI. KEREWE, KARAGWE, etc) living in the area from Lake Victoria in the north to Lake Rugwa in the south. They are farmers(breeding cattle) and do fishing. Though SUKUMA are a large tribe. They tend to live in small villages headed by a chief/sorcerer whose power is counterbalanced by many secret societies. Here is a beauti ful early 19th.C.Treenwar e container with lid in original brown paint that has developed the most wonderful alligator finish. Treenware measures 11" tall with lid on and is 7 1/2" Tall with out lid. opening is 5" and bottom of base is 4 1/2" The lid is 6" in D. This piece is in very good condition. Does have a slight split on one side( see pictures, 9,10,and 11) the pictures show it well. At one time some one tried gluing i t from the inside and some of the glue is still inside where they tr ied to repair it. There is no glue s howing on the outside of the containe r. You can feel the split but is hard to see it from the eye. This piece is still very sturdy and 100% authentic. Please look at all p ictures before bidding and email me with any questions. Antique Cobalt Blue Bone China Condensed Milk Container Unsigned Limoges-like
This item is in great condition. I have found no chips anywhere. As you can see in the picures. The gold painting has some wear- expected for its age. Its measrements are: underplate 6" diameter, Jar 5" diameter& 4" height, Top 4" diameter. Total assembled height 5 1/2" It weighs about 1lb. It is unsigned and is decorated with beautiful hand painted flowers in the white areas of the porcelain with gold decorations on the cobalt blue areas. You can see how beautifully thin this piece is by looking at picture# 9 the light shows through it. These jars were originally used to hold the contents of a can of condensed milk for table use at breakfast. We have used them for jam. Condensed milk, honey butter, and cranberry sauce. This one is exceptionally beautiful. I believe it is either German or French. It isn't ... moresigned. Please notice that in picture#10 and 12 you will see that there is some wear on glaze of the under plate in a few spots(picture 10) and some evidence of very very fine hair line crazing in a small spot on the underplate. TWO ANTIQUE SEWING CONTAINER BOXES W BONUS 1800;s COUNTRY FAIR ENTRY BUTTON HOLE
These are two very old boxes. One dates to the 1800's. The other is from the 1950's. The first one is a J& P Coats Best Six Cord Cotton For Hand And machine box. It measures 6.5 by 3 inches. it does not have the thread in it but it does have the original tissue overlay inside the box and as an extra special bonus it has a hand made sample of button holes on a piece of cloth with a brown hang tag staating that this was made by Carrie Businbarrick. 12 years old No 88, the year was 1889 Wolf River Valley Fair. Even the tag has a date of 1874 along the hole. The bow has tears along one end on both the box bottom and the lid. The corners on that end are split. It still displays well. The other box is empty but held Chic Pinking Shears at one time. It is a very retro pink and gray and measures 7.5 by 3 inches. It has paper wear along ... morethe edges but the corners are good. Both boxes would be great additions to your box or sewing collection. The country fair button holes make this a great find. Both boxes have great graphics on them. The fabric around the top was not put in place evenly and shows just a bit of the lining along part of the top. This could probably be fixed by anyone with a little craft know how. The container is done in the shape of a six petaled flower. With each petal and the flower's center all being a separate container with hinged lid. The lids of the containers have a simple geometric design. There are no identifying marks beyond some type of script on the bottom, but we believe this is of southeast Asian or Indian origin, at least 800 purity silver. This is a fantastic and interesting piece of silver construction, and would be great for a dresser box, pill box, or any similar purpose. This piece is in excellent condition. Antique Tin by The Metal Box Company This was made by the Metal Box Co. in England. I'm not sure what originally came in it. But I think it was probably tea. It's all metal and has a lithographed design of a young lady picking flowers. It's pretty rare to find a tin that's truly old enough to be"vintage" because there's just so many reproductions on the market. This one dates between 1930 and 1961. The Metal Box company took on the name around 1930 and still operates under the same name today. But largely got out of making tins of this style in 1961 when they signed a contract with Heinz. They mostly make industrial containers and metal soup cans now. Good condition with age appropriate wear. It has some paint wear around the rim. By the handle, and on the sides in a few areas. It also has a few dents. The dents ... moreare mostly unnoticeable by looking at it. I actually didn't notice them until I looked on the inside of the canister. The handle wiggles a little bit. This auction is for a vintage rabbit candy container possibly German as most of the paint was worn off and I refreshed him with a bit of paint. He has original glass eyes and stands 7" high X 6-1/2" long and is made of some sort of composition. Not sure if paper mache is added or not but he is in good shape for his age except for the neck piece. I added a new cardboard tube to hold his head in place as the one that was on him had desentegrated. He pulls a little handmade cart with metal wheels. Driving the cart is an antique German-bonnet-head doll that was from the ruins of WWII. I have made her a new body and she sports soft yellow pant suit with green vest.
