Here's a unique office machine from the 1930's. A transcriber that uses cylinder records! It's from the Thomas A. Edison series. And is a"Protechnic" Transcriber! Back in the early 10's and 20's. Thomas Edison invented a means of transcribing office dictation that was very advanced in it's day! It was a system that consisted of three machines: a dictation machine that someone would speak into through a horn-type funnel and tube that was connected to the machine. The machine would in turn imprint the speech onto a soft. Wax cylinder. A second machine. A Transcriber(which this item is. is a machine into which another office person would insert this wax cylinder, and a needle would play the recording into her earphone so she could hear the message while typing it on her typewriter, thus transferring the message ... moreto paper. Then there was also a third machine. A"shaver" that would do just what the name implies: shave off a layer of the wax cylinder, thus removing the dictated message, readying it to be re-used on the dictation machine again and again. This Transcriber is in excellent condition. All complete and running. There is no rust, and only minor scratches from probably many years of use back in the 30's. See my pics for details. Probably with minor adjustments it could be restored to working condition. Right now. All the parts are running. The old belt was disintegrated, so I put on a heavy-duty rubber belt to make sure everything's running. And I'm including in the case a brand new belt ready to be put on. This machine also includes the necessary parts that go with it: the foot pedal and cord. So the person typing could stop, advance, or replay the cylinder being typed. Also. The complete dual earphone and plastic tubing is included! In the front. There is a storage compartment for the wax cylinders! I wish I had some, they are very valuable! The dimensions are: 35" high.
