Up for consideration is a cast iron rounder base for an antique Victorian Clothes rack. The piece measures 35 inches at its widest point by 8 inches high. It has it's original paint as well as a good old set of original casters with rubber on them. The center whole measures 1 1/4 and is threaded with a standard pipe size. It weighs about 50 lbs. Industrial Metal Store Display Rack BASE Vintage Antique Cast Iron clothes stand
This base was salvaged from an old department store years ago. It is missing the top half. Sold as is. It is the base with the stem and knob only. The top half that would have held the clothing rack is missing. It has scratching and scuff marks. Surface rust in spots. Knob seems to work as it should. You're looking at a rare and ORIGINAL antique industrial"rounder" rolling clothing rack manufactured in the early 20th century. This exceptional piece features a cast iron leg base on casters. Steel shaft and embossed cast iron arms holding the hoop. The original and bright Japanning(copper oxidize effect) is present on the upper section of the rounder as well as the finial. This item is in wonderful condition and very sturdy. As you can see in pic#12, there is a small break in one of the iron arms which could be easily repaired or left alone as it doesn't affect the strength of the rounder. Rack looks to be c.Late-19thC to Turn-of-the Century vintage to me. It is in good condition with no damage to metal. There is a layer of old worn and chipped(possibly original) mustardy color paint on the cast iron base, with old faux wood grain paint on the pole. The rotating brass top has partially worn silvery patina over the brass. The top rotates very nicely ... moreand smoothly. The base still has all of it's wheels which work and swivel well. Some chipping in places to the faux wood grain paint on the pole. The top piece just lifts off for easier transportation. Beautiful antique clothes rack. Hello. And Thanks for stopping in! VINTAGE CAST IRON ORNATE CLOTHING RACK from NORDSTROM It's in pretty good condition.it has a nicely-aged patina with some oxidation. And bits of surface rust on the base.there's a few small areas of some slightly-advanced rust on the underside of the base, but nothing that is an issue, and no one will see. A painter wasn't careful in covering it, and there are a few small bits of white paint seen within the crevices of the relief on the top ornament that can easily be removed.there was a small bit on the base and it scraped off easily. If you refurbish it, I'm sure a light sanding, some metal cleaner, and sealer should spruce it up nicely. If you want to use it now, it will be just fine to hang rugged or dark colored items like coats, etc. As you can see in the photos, one decorative cone ... moreis off, and only missing its screw.easy enough to replace.I'll look around to see if I have it. There is an extra hole on each arm, but it came with 10 cones on it. I checked each cone and screw assembly, and all the threading is intact. I used it in my antique stalls to display vintage clothing. And people always asked if I'd sell it. I bought it in the antique section of a fixture store from an elderly man who told me it was from Nordstrom"from days gone by. I believe it may be from the 1950's era or earlier. Materials and features: I believe most of it is cast iron or an alloy with a bronze-tone patina. The gold-tone decorative cones look like brass. And still gleam. Its designs on the base are in relief. There are 6 holes drilled in each arm that you can move around or remove if you want a larger gap. It will hold a generous amount of clothing. It's very sturdy throughout. And will not easily topple over. I always had several heavy coats, and other weighted pieces on it. I never took it apart, but you can screw off the components.
