NJ, 4pp, 5” x 8” June 7, 1861, to her cousin, Maria Hinkley of Georgia, VT, with solid news about family members and their involvement in the war. Nice reference to the Blockade, authorized by President Lincoln April 19, 1861, to prevent the passage of trade goods and arms to the Confederacy. I had a most unexpected call from cousin Robert Spencer. Perhaps as this letter reaches you, he may be in Georgia but as that is uncertain, I will briefly tell you what I learned of his history. For the last twenty years or more, he has lived at Fort Smith, Arkansas. He owned a farm there and worked upon it. Eleven years ago, he was sun struck and has suffered in health ever since. His wife is still living…Last March, cousin Robert’s health was such that his doctor recommended ... moreto him to come north and spend the summer but as Robert was out of money, his friends there made a place for him. He first came to Boston and from there to New York where his half- brother’s children live and where he was staying…The state of Arkansas has seceded since he left and now he cannot get back and I do not see how he can hear from his wife. Dr. Allen has got an appointment as surgeon to go in a war steamer connected with the blockading feet in the Gulf of Mexico. The Steamer sails the 20 of this month. I shall go to Brooklyn before that time and intend, when I return, to bring Eliza and little Stanton home with me…I wrote to you about Robbins Allen. His disease has not advanced so rapidly as we feared it would. Since the war broke out, he has seemed almost to forget himself, so interested did he feel in everything going on in the nation. Several times, he rode his carriage to New York to see the different bodies of troops take their departures for the seat of war. He says if he was well, nothing would keep him from joining the army. When this war will end, the wisest are unable to tell.

It measures 41-1/2 inches in height or length. 22-1/2 by 22-1/2 inches in width and depth. It is totally original. It is a light beige colored tweed, with a dark brown leather trim throughout. Inside(left side) there are 4 drawers with beautiful pull handles. On the opposite side is set up for your clothing with wooden hangers. It has the original curtain, clothes bag, and another small compartment in the bottom closed off by another curtain. As you can see from the many photos that I took this trunk is in beautiful condition. There are some scratches and rubs but nothing is broken, or torn. All the hinges work great. Antique Wooden Painted Nautical Sailors Fishing Chest Trunk Box 1800's Steamer
This is an AMAZING antique fishing chest. I think it's late 1800's maybe really early 1900's. when I purchased it there was a bunch of old salt water fishing hooks and a sting ray barb& other cool stuff in it! One of the almost completely deteriorated paper boxes of hooks read 1910 on it, so I know it's at least that old. There are awesome adjustable wooden cubby compartments on the inside& spots to put a rod on the inside upper lid. In the pictures I left some of the fishing stuff in there. But its cleaned out now. There are some amazing graphics on this chest. On the top of the chest is a nautical compass reading north east south and west, on the front under the latch(which is fully functional) are the initials F.D.JR. On the right side of the chest are three flags I'm not sure if these three flags identify the ... morearea in which it was made? maybe someone with nautical knowledge will know for sure. And on the left is an anchor with rope twisting around it. Im pretty sure these are all hand painted. Or super old decals. But I'm pretty sure there hand painted. The chest appears to have a sealant on the outside. Which I'm sure they would have done to help protect it from salt water. There are no major cracks in this chest. I have put no chemicals on it to clean it. Just a damp rag. Now a couple down sides to this beauty: the back hinges have rusted and broken.see pics) and on the sides it looks like there were a couple ropes screwed in to keep it on board? That are gone. Handcrafted, scratch built, wood model of an un-named steam powered ship model that follows the design of the tramp steamers that plied the worlds oceans form 1910 through the start of Word War Two. The model's super structure is painted in white with grey decks and a Robin's egg blue smoke stack, and the deck machinery in black with the hull painted black over a red bottom. The model comes apart from the deckhouse forward to the center which exposes the engine room. Which is fitted with a live steam engine. The foredeck is also removable. MODEL'S DESIGN and EQUIPMENT: The model has all the characteristics of being built by hand ... morefrom scratch. And may date as long ago as the mid 1970's.The ship's skeletal construction includes hand cut frames, stringers and Balsa wood planking. The steam engine which is installed consists of a boiler in which water is converted to steam from a firebox below, which powers a single cylinder engine that drives the shaft and propeller. There are no markings on the engine. Model steam engines of this type and quality are rare and sell for $895.00 Retail with operating boats selling for $3800.00. There is a 72.2 MHZ radio control receiver of that era that works with a single servo to move the rudder. But there is no throttle control or a reverse. There is no transmitter to activate the servo. If this model is to be used in the water, then it is recommended that it first be tested for water tight integrity, and if satisfactory, then the radio control system should be upgraded to the current 2.4 GHZ system that is current state-of-the-art. Up for auction is the RARE model. From STAR MFG, of their commercial hot dog cooker. This was in very good condition when I originally purchased it. The first owner did paint the steel bottom a silver color. I did disassemble this and repainted it a FIRE ENGINE RED. This was painted with"high heat" paint so the temperature will not affect the new paint job. All parts are original, and I do believe this is complete. The heating element was cleaned and the electronics were checked; all works great. This heats up very hot within a few minutes. The steel base has been painted. The sides and corners are stainless steel with very little visible wear. The 3 piece top is aluminum and that has also been painted the FIRE ENGINE RED. All glass panels are also original. The control knob is cracked but does not affect the function. No directions ... moreare included. The original cord does also have a tiny split which again does not affect the function or safety.
