Antique 19th Century Dental Instruments LOT of 42
There are 42 instruments in this lot. They are quite old. Possibly victorian, maybe earlier. They have no markings of manufacture of any kind. They are each quite beautiful and have a wonderfully aged patina. One of the tools looks to have been more recently filed and one has the very tip broken off. There are 5 thick ribbed handled tools that are just amazing. They range from 6" to 7 1/2" inches in length. I'm not an expert with dental instruments and know very little. Dental Instruments in original portable chest A chest full of all sorts of vintage dental kit I don't know the different types of tools. But I do remember some of them with a certain sense of dread. The best description is to study the photos. There are six drawers and the top compartment in the wooden the chest. The chest still has it's original bar lock for the drawers and the top lock does have a key(bit fiddley) I'll try and answer any questions. But I'm not a dentist and there's too many items to list even if I had a clue to what they are! I want to sell this as one lot. So I will not split. Up for auction is a lot of antique dental instruments. My grandfather(he was a dentist) acquired these as a gift many years ago. I am not sure exactly when they are from. But from the looks of the tooth extractor, some of these tools may be as old as the very early 1800s. The handle is made of wood and is in very good condition. I found a website that included information about medical procedures and tools used on the the Lewis and Clark expedition(1803-1806) and it has a picture of the exact same tool. There is container marked Phenandyne in this auction. I found a dentistry journal from 1911 discussing the use of this substance in dental procedures. Please review pictures for more details. I obviously don't know much about dentistry. I have been collecting dental antiques for 40 years. And have never seen another set like these. They were purchased in London 30 years ago at a medical antique show, and are complete and in superb condition They are complete and the case is equally fine. One instrument has a small crack in the handle. There was a set similar sold in Europe last year, but it only had one handle and the ends screwed into the handle. It sold for 1700$. These are periodontal surgical instruments, not scalers for calculus. Very rare and complete.

Gorgeous set of Dental Scalers and Instruments
A really nice complete set of antique boxed dental scalers and instruments. Excellent condition with no broken tips. No staining on the white organic material handles, the hinge and fasteners on the box are intact. There is a small piece of velvet missing from the bottom of the box which I never noticed until I pulled a couple out to photograph the ends. The dozen instruments have a variety of ends, two of which appear to be small burrs. There is some light staining to the outside of the box and a few hairline cracks in the handles but really quite minimal as you can see from the pictures. All in all an extremely nice set.
