Vtg STUBAI Original ASCHENBRENNER Ges Gesch AUSTRIA with Strap + Carabiner
This is a vintage STUBAI Aschenbrenner Ges Gesch mountaineering ice axe. With old strap and carabiner. 31" long and 10 1/2" length of axe head. Circa 1950's. Weighs approx 2 pounds. A little info from the internet: Peter Aschenbrenner was an Austrian Mountain Guide(1902-1998) who was involved in early expeditions to climb Nanga Parbat in the Himalaya. H e developed an ice axe in the early 1930's and got the Stubai company to manufacture it for him. These axes became almost universal in the mountains from the mid 1930's right up to the 1960's when fibre-glass. Metal and alloy shafted tools began to take over. There were many variations, some of which appear to have been custom made. Batches were made for German mountain troops during WWII. Overall condition is very good. This Vintage Stubai Ice Climbing or mountain Climbing pick axe is in excellent condition. The axe measures just at 35 1/2 inches long and the head measures a total of 12 inches across. This Pick axe was owned by an old friend of mine who is a missionary and a Retired Dentist and he used this pick to climb Mount Shasta in Northern California on several occasions. This short handle pick is fully functional and in very good condition showing a nice patina. It does have a couple of minor tight hairlines by the metal neck brace strap. It is still tight and solid and it pings when tapped on a hard surface indicating its integrity. A good tape job would render this pick axe in an even better, and excellent working condition. This is an Austrian Made Antique Stubai Mountaineering Piolet/Axe. Very beautiful and in fine condition for its age(see detailed pictures) Stubai has been in operation since 1897. In the Stubai Valley, producing some of the finest tools in the world. The Iron Mines are of such high quality in this region that forging has been present in this location since the 1400's. The integrity of the piolet axe is excellent. It has had no repairs or restoration. A perfect gift for a climber. A great piece to hang in your home, or a very unique self defense tool! Stubai 12 Piece - Carvers Set
I bought this set about 30 years ago but have only used the skew chisel(2) and the large gouge(10) These are professional grade tools made in Austria. I took a photo of each piece left to right in the order as seen in the tool roll in the first photo. The numbers of each tool in the order shown is 30. 30, 41, 2, 10, 1, 10, 5, 8, 11, and 10. However, eBay allows only 12 photos total so the last tool, medium gouge(8) is not included in this photo set. I can send that photos on request but I can tell you it is unused and in the same condition as the day it was delivered to me. The larger tools are about 9" length and the smaller tools are about 7" I will also include a gouge sharpening stone which is essentially unused. The canvas tool roll is dirty from laying around in my shop for 30 years but a trip to the clothes washer would fix ... morethat if you want to clean it.
