VINTAGE 1920'S VEGA FLATBACK MANDOLIN Here's an elegant and finely crafted Vega flatback mandolin from the 1920's. There are no brands or labels but the headstock shape and construction details are unmistakeably Vega. With a 13 3/4" scale, this mandolin has approximately the same tension at any given string gauge as a Gibson mando. This means a lot of punch and good tuning stability when you're dishing it out. The canted top is solid Spruc e with back and sides of darkly stained Maple. The neck is Honduran Mahogany with an Ebony fretboard. Original bone nut and W averly tuners- b oth in excellent condition. Ebony bridge with Galalali th saddle. Finely crafted rosette with inlaid bone dots and rectangles and i nlaid Gutta Percha pickguard with art nouveau accents. There are an array of cracks on the back. A vintage.Circa late 1920's,Vega tenor or plectrum tailpiece. These Professional tailpieces were used on Vegas higher end models. Made by the Presto company.They are highly sought after,and rare to find in unconverted condition. A lot of the 4 string Prestos are converted to 5 string by having an oval hole punched into them. As many bluegrass banjo players see the 5 string Presto as the holy grail of tailpieces. The 5 string presto in the pictures is not included in this auction.Just there for demo purposes. 1927 Vega "Little Wonder" 4-string banjo
1927 Vega“Little Wonder” 4-String Banjo I bought this banjo about 40 years ago because it was just what I was looking for. And it was in near perfect condition. I played Celtic music for a few years, then injured my left hand and was no longer able to play. It’s been sitting in my closet ever since and it is time for me to sell it and let somebody else enjoy it. There is absolutely no wear on any of the frets and none on the fretboard. There is no pitting or rust on any of the metal parts and they still have their original shine. There is no wear on the neck and the wood has the same sheen as when it was made. Being played so little after I bought the banjo, it is still in near perfect condition. It has a“rolled bead” of brass that acts as an effective variation of a tone ring, giving the instrument such a good sound. It has the tensioner ... moredevice which holds the dowel tightly to the heel of the banjo. The neck is perfectly straight and the action is just right. It has Grover tension tuning pegs and they hold the tuning tight. The entire length is 31” the pot is approximately 11” and there are 17 frets and 29 brackets. It comes with a heavy black vinyl zippered case. Vega Whyte Ladie 17 fret banjo neck-suit Celtic style players
This is a rare and hard to find Vega Whyte Lady 17 fret tenor banjo neck.Removed from a late 1920s Vega that was to be converted to a 5 string. The 17 fret neck is the most sought after of the tenors.As many players of Irish music like the shorter scale. The neck is in good shape.Dead straight and with good frets,however the heelcap has a glued crack where a strap pin was inserted. This is stable and not too ugly,but would dissapear if the heelcap was refinished with a little shellac. apart from that.Its good. If you have a plectrum.Or 19 fret tenor,and long for the shorter scale,then this would be an easy way to convert your banjo. I have some other Vega parts that i will be listing. A resonator,some flanges,tuners etc,so keep an eye out.

A short scale tenor banjo has 17 frets; it was made for professional musicians with small hands. Nowadays the players of Scots and Irish music prefer this type of banjo. Here's a very nice Martin Vega acoustic guitar from the 1970s- Model V-845. These guitars were made in the Netherlands after Martin purchased the Vega company. Long known for their range of banjos. This was a very high end model in the Vega range that features: Solid German spruce top Natural finish Solid East Indian rosewood back and sides South American mahogany neck German Kolb enclosed tuners This guitar is a very good copy of the venerable D28. Very lightweight. Very nice tone. The rosewood is strikingly beautiful on this guitar. The grain is very pronounced. And the back of the guitar has a very distinctive coloring that makes it look like Brazilian Rosewood at first glance. The playability is excellent with nice low action all the way up the neck. I just installed a new set of Elixer Light strings(12s) Overall cosmetic condition. ... moreWith minor handling wear that you might expect from a 40 year old instrument. There are 2 issues. One is a repaired top crack on the lower bout- professionally done and very stable. The other is a neck reset. These guitars are known to have weak neck joints. So resets are common. The reset was reinforced internally with screws, so this joint is going nowhere! There is a small repaired crack at the base of the neck, which probably occured when the joint originally failed. 1800s early 1900s SS Stewart vintage open back 5 string banjo Washburn Vega NICE
Up for a buy it now or best offer is a vintage 5 string open back banjo. Not 100% sure of the maker as I see no markings or the exact age but I am almost 100% positive its a Stewart as the peghead is in the classic SS Stewart shape with a very nice pearl flower and vine inlay detail per Stewart on the peghead. This is a very well made banjo. With all Stewart hardware including the neck to rim bracket and tailpiece. The headstock inlay is quite attractive, and though not the fanciest, it is by far from the plainest, and to me just has the look of understated elegance compared to some with over the top gaudiness, though we see the value in some of those! The banjo plays great with a perfectly straight neck, excellent ebony board with nice frets, and probably original friction tuners and tailpiece. Actually the banjo seems to be mostly all original ... moreand in great condition for a 100+ year old instrument with no repaired cracks anywhere. The strings are old and should be replaced. This auction is. From what my research tells me, a fairly special banjo. It is a 4-string banjo which bears following markings to the Dowel Stick: Impressed mark which reads: Fairbanks Banjo Made By The Vega Company Boston Mass Either Side of the above mark is a further 2 impressed marks of the word VEGA within a circle within a 5-point star. Impressed mark which reads: PAT DEC 30 1890 JAN 10 1893 JULY 27 1909(Please note this mark is difficult to read so dates quoted may be in error) To the right-hand end of the Dowel Stick is a plate stating: Made Expressly For OLIVER DITSON CO. Boston– New York To the side of the Dowel Stick is the impressed mark: WHYTE LADIE To the side of the Dowel Stick and to the inner edge of the Pot is the number: 36259 To the reverse/under side of the Dowel Stick is a hand-written pencil annotation which appears ... moreto read: WL- 2 By reference to the extremely helpful site I believe the serial number“36259” dates this instrument to around 1917/18. The pencil reference to“WL– 2” presumably refers to this instrument being a Whyte Ladie- Model 2. The instrument has the following approximate dimensions: Head Length(to Nut) = 5½” Neck Length(Nut to Rim) = 19 10/ 16” Diameter Head = 11” Diameter Back = 12 9/ 16” Hoop Thickness = 3/ 16” The neck and pot appear to be made from maple whilst the fingerboard appears to be ebony. The head vellum has an inscription(beneath the tailpiece) reading: REMO Weather King BANJO Made in U.S.A. In terms of general condition I would firstly make clear that I do not know much about banjo’s other than what I have just researched concerning this particular instrument however. In my untutored opinion, I would say the condition is good. There is no noticeable damage other than: At some time somebody has marked the‘vellum’ Beneath the strings, with the letters C G B D. 60s vintage 5-STRING Banjo NECK - fretted,finished, straight cut heel fits VEGA
Click on small photos to view large photo. One of the often-repeated questions for sure. Though not a Vega neck. This is a nice original US-made 1960s 5-STRING Banjo NECK that has been recut to fit a Vega pot. Worth considering if you need a good utility neck that is completely FRETTED, BOUND and FINISHED. As the photos show the heel has been accurately machined to match the heel cut of a prewar VEGA. This saves SO much work for anyone needing a good utility neck since shaping the heel to fit a pot can drive a sane man over the edge. It can be mated right to your prewar Tubaphone, Whyte Laydie, Little Wonder, Style N or Style F pot and, with some tuners,strings and tinkerin you'll be able to hear that fortunate find of yours in no time. The neck is an actual vintage American-made one-piece of what looks like maple with a nice original ... morefinish. It's STRAIGHT with good frets. String nut and a 5th string nut/screw. Just about 1 1/8" almost 1 3/16"wide at the nut so it plays comfortably. Heel is about 2 1/4" in height with no heel cap and has an approximately 3/8" diameter hole which could be plugged and redrilled to accept your dowel stick if desired. There is also a screw hole in the bottom of the heel which could be plugged or hidden by a heel cap. Comes completely fretted& bound and the fingerboard is nice dark rosewood! As you can see the last fret was lost in the recutting of the heel so it's a 21 fret neck with a 27" or so scale. It is shown in some of the photos alongside a Vega Little Wonder neck for purposes of demonstrating the heel cut. Vega neck not included) Makes a great utility neck. Course you could recut the peghead shape to match the old Vega design, put a nice heel cap on it and even scoop the end of the fretboard easy enough.lots of fun for not a lot of bread. Vintage 1890's Fairbanks Vega Luscomb Gatcomb Stewart Antique Banjo Wire Armrest
Here we have a nice 1890 to 1910 or so original banjo wire armrest from a Fairbanks banjo from the early 1890's in very good condition. This armrest is appropriate for any of the other banjo brands in the title and any others from this period. There is some plating loss and tarnish consistent with it's intended use. It has 2 pairs of mounting holes to attach to the banjo on 2 of the bracket nuts between the nut and shoe at each attachment point. These holes and spacings allow for different bracket spacings and pot sizes. And the armrest was made so that it could bend/flex slightly to accomodate almost any pot size I would say from about 10 1/2" to around 13" or so.possibly larger. It was on a Fairbanks Electric with an approx. 12" pot and worked well. A nice. Rare banjo accessory from the height of the classic period. ... moreThese have never been easy to find. And are more difficult than ever the last few years. The ones from the 20's show up now and then. But they just don't look right on a"real" banjo. I am assuming the case is original to the banjo, and am including the 2 capos' extra bridge, wrench, and extra strings and picks that were in the compartment in the case. also, the original information sheets that came with this model and the pete seeger. Label inside head identifies the model and serial number. Underside of skin signed Vegalon Weatherproof. Vega Little Wonder Tenor Banjo 1925 w/ hard case
Vega Little Wonder Open Back Tenor Banjo– Very nice condition. And appears to be all original. No missing brackets or nuts. The 11" skin head has two rips that were repaired from the back with some type of glue. Tension holds good on the head so we left it as is. Tuners are the original grained ivoroid friction pegs and work fine. Maple neck is in good condition, with a few nicks but nothing that would interfere with playing. The tailpiece is stamped“No knot, Pat Nov 19. 1901” The wood in back is stamped“Made by The Vega Company. Boston MASS USA” Also stamped“Little Wonder” The ivoroid binding on the neck is all intact and in good shape, as is the original bone nut. It is a 17 fret neck and the frets are all in good shape, with just a little wear on the first couple frets. The serial number 63111 is stamped on the inside of the rim, ... morewhich according the dating information on Mugwumps, dates this Vega Little Wonder as being built in 1925. Includes case which appears to be original from photos I’ve seen. The padded portion of the case handle is gone but the metal strip is intact and holding strongly to the case.

There is no makers mark that I can find other than the star on the headstock. Vega. Supertone, Lyon and Healy or a similar maker. The banjo guitar will need a new head. Beyond that it is in nice condition. The neck is very well built and solid. Neck is straight with binding and the frets have almost no play wear with plenty of life left in them. The inside of the pot has some stress cracks around some of the screws and also where the rod meets the pot at the tailpiece. They are all solid and all seem to be stress cracks from the years. Pot has 38 tension clamps. Tuners are very nice. I put a small block under the bridge to support it so I could tune it to pitch and hear ... morehow it sounded. It played very well and even with the torn head had a very cool tone with nice bite. Serial number 67463. This instrument conforms to the typical specifications of the model for the period in which it was made. With mahogany five-string neck with no inlay on the peghead, bound fingerboard, dot pearl fingerboard inlays and elliptical inlays at positions 5 and 10, simple brass hoop tone ring, ungeared tuners and nickel-plated metal hardware. There is only minor discoloration of the end of the shank, one tiny pin-point spot on the shank and a couple of surface scratches on the outside of the mouthpiece shoulder(as seen in the last photo) You just don't find these in this condition.

Vintage Vega West Germany Open Movement Barometer Mahogany Polished Case Works
This vintage Barometer was made by Vega in West Germany probably in the 1930-40’s. It has a red wood frame(polished to look like Bakelite) and could be Mahogany. It measures 5 ½ inches across and has an opening in the middle to see the movement. There are two dials– one moveable by hand and the other moves to correspond with weather conditions. Inside the beveled glass enclosed case is a gauge with the words“Stormy. Rain, Change, Fair, Very Dry” written in calligraphy with the first letter in red. The words“Vega” and“West Germany” are also written on this gauge. This barometer does work as I had it placed in several places in my home for a period of a week and the dial did move. The red wood is in excellent condition(only very tiny marks near back edge) The metal(could be brass) needs a good polishing, the gauge(could be paper) shows ... moreonly a little darkening due to age, and one of the dials has a tiny piece of corrosion(inside the glass) A very unique vintage barometer. Vintage Vega O'Dell small body acoustic guitar. 017 0-17, M20, M-20
vintage vega O'dell small body guitar. Looks and sounds like a 1930's/40's martin 0-17 and is made of high quality woods with same high level of craftsmanship. top back and sides are solid honduran mahogany. Fret board and bridge are brazilian rosewood. laddar braced. has recently had a professional neck reset. New ebony nut, and new bone saddle installed. everything other then saddle and nut is original. action is great at 3.5/32 on bass side at 12th fret. still has room to bring down saddle(luthier keep it a.5/32 higher then standard low action because i tune all my guitars down a whole step) structurally this guitar is in FANTASTIC shape with zero known issues. i can't date this guitar but it's estimated to have been made between the 20's to the 40's and was made by O'Dell for Vega in boston. Back when they ... morewere making beautiful handmade instruments. i have 3 pictures comparing the guitar to my 1948 gibson lg2. the headstocks are identical in everyway that i can see. As are the bridges. amazing resonant. Loud, and articulate sound. perfect guitar for playing lead or accompaniment with someone who plays a larger size guitar like a dreadnaught. sounds great by itself as well. crisp, but warm amazing sound. as good(but different) as my 1948 lg2. the difference for me is this guitar is more balanced from the lows to highs in volume and seems to be louder in the upper mids/ highs then the lg2, which has a stronger bass and lower midrange sound. i find that an lg2 sized body is an ergonomically perfect fit for me. So i'm keeping the lg2 and selling this vega(which has a smaller body size, see pic which shows both lg2 and vega in same pic. The Gibson LG2 that is pictured is NOT included in this auction.
