TIF 8800X Combustible Gas sensor – no battery or charger
We got this from the plant closing sale of a jet engine repair facility. This is an excellent detector in mint condition! But it has no charger and one of the cells in the battery has a hole blown in the top. I tested this unit by applying 4.8 VDC to the battery input connector and supplying a whiff of propane. It is very fast and very sensitive. A TIF OEM charger and battery will cost about $90 Total. A generic 6 VDC charger and new generic batteries would cost about $15. If you work in a coal mine I would go with the TIF parts. If you are trying to find the gas tank vapor leak on your car. The generic should work just fine. We got two of these and I bought 4 Ni-mh batteries at Menards(northtec) and replaced the OEM batteries for $6. We got these from the plant closing sale of a jet engine repair facility. The batteries in every unit were bad and there are no chargers included. I hooked up my lab power supply and all units work fine with 4.8 volts applied to the battery holder terminals and a wisp of propane on the sensor. The TIF batteries and chargers cost about $35 each so it would cost $70 each to get them working again legitimately. BUT. If you wanted to put generic batteries and generic 6 volt chargers on them, it would probably drop to about $50. Then you could sell them to people trying to find the tiny leak in their gas tank vapor collection system and make a fortune. I've already spent $180 for parts and the leak is still there. I only have a rough idea of what this does but I'm pretty sure it has to do with detecting ghosts. The original owner only had it for a couple years and then was committed to a nursing home. I do not know the man personally and I'm merely selling it to help his family because they have no idea how computers work. Let alone how to set up an eBay account. It appears to be in perfectly working order and has it's rechargeable batteries. I don't know if it came with a charger. I was told original retail is around $250 and my research as verified it's worth. The latches on the case are in impressively good condition considering the style case that it is but it is clearly used with the man's last name on it and what I assume are identification stickers.
