Rare Vintage 30's WPA Washington Metal Box! Rare Vintage 30's WPA Washington Metal Box! Here we have for sale a Rare Vintage 30's WPA(see story of WPA below) Washington Metal Box. I am not sure exactly what it originally held but it measures approximately 5" wide by 8-1/4" high by 2-3/8" deep. It is made of heavy sheet metal with a copper color finish. It has a hinged lid with a latch and a clip inside the lid to hold an instruction book or something similar and has 4 screw holes in the back to allow it to be mounted on the wall or to a piece of machinery. There is a handle on the long side for use in carrying it. It may have housed a first aid kit but I have some doubts that it as the WPA First Aid Kits were not normally mounted to a wall and they usually had"First Aid Kit" marked on them in some way. ... moreHowever. The handle on the box seems to indicate that at one time it was a mobile box and someone could have drilled the mounting holes. If anyone has any more information on what it might have held at one time, please let me know. Overall condition is good, showing lots of nicks and scratches, check out pictures for details and condition. In any case it is an interesting piece of American History and worthy of display! The Works Progress Administration(renamed in 1939 as the Work Projects Administration; WPA) was the largest and most ambitious New Deal agency. This ole dawg is still in excellent condition coming from the big apple. Its life being in the skyline was cut short by the retired owner. Its jonesin to be back in the action once again to make the zeros rhyme. The spuds are in original point condition and HS size. Inside jaw dim. of the 3/4 HS is 1-1/4" ovl. length of 16-1/4" inside jaw dim. of the 7/8 HS is 1-7/16" ovl. length of 16-5/8" The scabbard is still hangin in there but not something I would trust. Stamped on bill of the hat"U.S. GOVERNMENT" Made in 1969. Still has the inner support inside. It's a little dirty but can be removed and easily cleaned. There's minor scratches and a few that would need a little extra care to polish out if you're so inclined. There are 3 clips for a belt that have some rust but should be a little elbow grease to remove it. There are 5 minor dents. But they're EASILY straightened/removed all pretty superficial.
