Vintage American Bridge Co. HS 7/8 Spud Wrench (1 1/2 inch)
A vintage American Bridge Co. spud wrench labeled HS 7/8. It has a 1 1/2 inch open end and is 16 inches in length; still has a bit of the original blue paint. The point end is a bit busted as seen in picture 4.

VINTAGE AMERICAN BRIDGE CO HS IRONWORKER CONSTRUCTION STRUCTURAL 7/8 SPUD WRENCH
This uncommon hard steel 17 and 1/2 inch offset spud wrench was made by US Steel for the American Bridge Company. An engineering/construction firm located in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania since 1900 and is marked ABO(with USS in the O) and HS 7/8 on the wrench end. The wrench jaws are good, 1 and 7/16 inches wide. It weighs 1.4 pounds and is in good shape. There are no cracks or significant holes(round shallow pits are on the bottom of the wrench) and the steel welded on the bottom does not have any obvious reason to be there. Some of the blue paint used by American Bridge Co. is still on the wrench. Spuds can be used to line up holes in structural steel for bolting together. Using the other end to tighten the nut on the bolt. This tool can still be used for many more years or retired to a collection of fine American steel tools. The 3/4 HS is 15-5/8" long with a inside jaw dimension of 1-1/4" The 7/8 HS is 16-3/4" long with a inside jaw dimension of 1-7/16" The frog has not yet been broke in and is in the same condition as the spuds. These blue beauties are what set the standards for todays tools. Forged for the ironworkers of AB/USS and rarely found in this condition. Great original points and jaws.
