I commissioned some reproductions from a professional leather artist and craftsman. Since a sling made from new canvas just wouldn't look right on a 70 year old rifle. These reproduction Japanese Arisaka slings are made from old rifle sling web canvas and is patterned after the original Japanese Carbine Canvas Slings that were used during WWII on the Type 38. You are bidding on an original WWII Japanese we sling for the 7.7mm type 99 Arisaka rifle. This is the very rare paratrooper quick disconnect web sling. I purchased this from the vet that brought the gun and sling home back in 1975. The gun used in these pictures are not included in this auction nor is it for sale. The rifle shown is not the original gun that this sling came off of. This sling is made from a cotton web with a metal buckle and wire disconnect hooks on each end. This web sling is somewhat stiff and looks like it was coated with something. The vet I purchased this from told me the Japanese tried to make web items rot and mildew proof by painting the item with various substances like clear lacquer. Whatever they could find on hand. M1 Garand Canvas Web Sling, Korea ? Nam ?
This canvas sling was included in a buy of Nam hand guards. Its super nice. The metal looks tumbled. Its a used sling, not a reproduction but in excellent shape, if I still had a Garand or M1A, it wouldn't be going anywhere. No rust on metal, no loose threads, just a very nice sling. No makers mark.
